BC gets back to .500 and in sports, timing can be everything. Take Monday night for example. The Florida State Seminoles were coming off an overtime win on the road at Syracuse last weekend.  With little rest or time to prepare, they continued their road trip into Chesnutt Hill to take on a Boston College squad that was waiting for them. The result was the Eagles finishing with all five starters in double-figures in an 81-75 win where BC never trailed.

Florida State struggled all night shooting the ball, and this may have been a byproduct of tired legs from the Syracuse game. Whatever the case,  the Seminoles could only manage 33% shooting from the field (27-80) and only 19% from 3-point range (5-26). Yes, they outrebounded the Eagles 50-36 because there were more misses to go get.

Boston College, on the other hand, started red hot, making their first four shots en route to a 13-5 lead. A 7-0 run, that featured back to back buckets from Ky Bowman, a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. A three-ball from Steffon Mitchell (13 points) gave the Eagles their first 10 point lead of the night at 21-11 and it would force Florida State head coach Leonard Hamilton to call timeout with 11:41 left in first half.

Florida State would cut it to six at 29-23 on consecutive baskets from guard C.J. Walker (19 points) before Boston College finished the first half on a 9-0 run highlighted by back to back three-pointers from Jordan Chapman (14). The Eagles would head to the locker room up 41-25. It marked only the second time this season that the Seminoles had trailed at the half. Boston College is now 10-0 when leading at the half.

Florida State tried to crawl back into the game with a 9-0 run with Walker scoring five of the nine points. They forced BC’s Jim Christian to call timeout with the Eagles up 49-39. The Eagles quickly answered with a 5-0 spurt including a Nik Popovic basket (14) and a three-ball from Jerome Robinson (19) brought the lead back to 54-39 with 11:24 to play.

Florida State did not go away when a 7-0 outburst brought the BC’s lead to under ten for the first time since early in the first half.  Terrance Mann had four of those points and he finished with 21 for the game. It helped that the Eagles went through a three-minute drought to allow the Seminoles back into the contest.

With four minutes left,  what might have been a blowout was now a ball game again.  But in final stages, it was the Eagles ability to knock down free throws that in the end improved their record to 13-6, 3-3 in ACC.

Florida State drops to 13-5, 2-4 in the conference. Boston College heads out on the road traveling to Louisville on Sunday.
