The final week of the NYPL season has arrived and unfortunately, the Lowell Spinners will not be playing post season baseball this time around. But there is still news to share about this team.
Roster moves are still being handed out as the Gulf Coast Red Sox season has ended. Four players from that team have been promoted to spend the week with the Spinners. They are infielders Kervin Suarez and Everlouis Lozada, pitcher Juan Perez and outfielder Cole Brannen, who was the Red Sox second round pick in this past June’s Entry Level Draft. He is a high school product out of Georgia.
Another player making a move is pitcher Brendan Nail, who has been promoted to Greenville Drive at High-A ball. Nail was with the Spinners for a brief period of time but showED enough in his outings to get the call and help the Drive in their playoff run.
On Labor Day, during a DH VS Hudson Valley, the Spinners hit two home runs, one in each game. The long ball has been a missing part of their offense this summer. Lowell find themselves next to last in the category having hit only 20 diggers for the season.
Outfielder Alexander Martinez has been good at home this year. He takes a four game hit streak into the last series of the year against Vermont. His slash line is 265/ .395/ .353 and while in the outfield Martinez had yet to make an error all season.
As mentioned earlier in this space, offense or the lack of it has been a problem all year long for this team. The Spinners of late have not been able to score four runs in a game since August 30.
The season ends this week as they try to get in the last series through the rain and play the last two.
