For the second night in a row, the Lowell Spinners played a clean game for the win. Yes, they did give up the lead in the late innings, but instead of finding a way to lose on Friday night they found a way to win. Michael Osinski’s 10th inning RBI single drove home Yoan Aybar with the winning run and Spinners make it two in a row over Brooklyn 3-2 in ten.

The game began with Lowell giving a rehab start to Kevin McAvoy down from Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League. He looked good going the first five allowing only one hit, no runs, fanning four and walking two. When he left the game he was in line for a win with the Spinners holding a 2-0 lead.

Lowell put those runs on the board in the second, three straight hits after one out produced the two runs. Back to back singles from Garrett Benge and Marino Campana had the Spinners in business against Cyclones starter Darwin Ramos. Next man up was Aybar who has struggled to put the ball in play, but not this time as he ripped a triple off the right field wall scoring both Benge and Campana to give the Spinners a 2-0 advantage.

It would stay that way until the seventh, Dakota Smith was now on the hill for Lowell replacing McAvoy. He had a clean sixth but ran into trouble in the seventh. After retiring the first batter he faced, Smith would then give up a single to LF Quinn Brody that was followed by a walk to Reed Gamache, Brooklyn’s first baseman. Brody would cross the plate on a double down the left field line off the bat of third baseman Carl Stajduhar. After another walk, this one to Catcher Scott Manea that would load the bases with one out, Smith would retire DH Carlos Sanchez on a ground out. However, the tying run would score in the person of Gamache and the game was now tied at 2-2.

The game now belonged to both bullpens as we moved to extra frames. For the home team, this was their first time playing error free baseball in 2017, and they made it work.

After Brooklyn was set down in the top of the tenth by the Spinners third pitcher of the night Ryan Oduber, Lowell worked their magic in the bottom of the inning to get the W.

Trey Cobb, the Cyclones third hurler of the evening, got himself in trouble quickly. He surrendered a leadoff single to Aybar, a two hit night for him. He was sacrificed to second by Rainwinson Lameda after an international walk to Catcher Samuel Miranda put runners at first and second. The top of the Lowell order got a chance to be the hero. Michael Osinski at the top of the lineup for the second straight night and who also had a two hit night would single in the hole between shortstop and third base. Manager Iggy Suarez never blinked as he waved Aybar from the moment the ball was hit. Cyclones LF Brody fielded the ball cleanly and made a strike of a throw to home plate. Brooklyn Catcher Scott Manea made the catch and tag out a sliding Aybar at the plate. But Aybar was called safe instead because the catcher did not give the runner a clear path to the plate. Manea was tossed from the game for arguing the call. No matter, the ball game was over and Spinners had a 3-2 win in ten.

In the clubhouse afterward, Suarez said he never thought about holding Aybar on the hit. He praised his team for a second straight clean game and gave props to Osinski for the game winning single after going 0-4 with three strikeouts before that at bat.

Oduber got the win his first of the year. Cobb takes the loss and he is now 1-1. Lowell goes for the sweep on Saturday.
