BALTIMORE — Faced with a catastrophic injury crisis in their quarterback room, the Baltimore Ravens have thrown themselves an NFL trade-deadline lifeline. Multiple reports confirmed Wednesday that Baltimore is finalizing a trade to acquire veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals.
The move comes at a desperate hour for first-year Ravens head coach Jesse Minter, whose 4-4 squad lost two-time MVP starter Lamar Jackson to a thumb injury requiring surgery that is likely to sideline him for the remainder of the season. To make matters worse, backup signal-caller Tyler “Snoop” Huntley was also sidelined with a severe turf toe injury. With undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano and practice squad signee Kedon Slovis left as the only healthy options under center, Baltimore acted swiftly to secure a proven starting-caliber passer.
The Emergency in Baltimore: Why the Ravens Acted
Lamar Jackson’s thumb injury threatened to derail a 2026 campaign that still holds plenty of promise in a wide-open AFC North. While replacing Jackson’s dynamic dual-threat playmaking is impossible, Minter made it clear that the organization has no intention of waving the white flag.
“We are looking to adjust our winning formula,” Minter noted earlier in the week, emphasizing a pivot toward a run-heavy, defensive-minded approach.
To execute that strategy, Baltimore needed a steady veteran who protects the football. Enter Jacoby Brissett. The 33-year-old owns a 1.5% career interception rate—the second-lowest mark among active quarterbacks with at least 2,500 pass attempts, trailing only Aaron Rodgers (1.4%). By pairing Brissett with star running back Derrick Henry and relying on a rugged Baltimore defense, the Ravens can remain highly competitive without forcing a young rookie into emergency action.
Crucially, Brissett won’t be starting completely from scratch in Charm City. He reunites with Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfolk, who worked directly with Brissett during stints in Arizona and Cleveland. That familiarity is expected to accelerate Brissett’s transition into Baltimore’s playbook.
A Career Reset for Jacoby Brissett
For Brissett, the trade represents a dramatic change of fortune. After a standout 2025 season in Arizona in which he threw for 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns across 12 starts, his 2026 campaign took a frustrating turn.
Through seven starts this year, Brissett completed 63.3% of his passes for 1,719 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while managing a 2-5 record. Following a tough performance against the Dallas Cowboys, Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur opted to make a change, benching Brissett in favor of Gardner Minshew and promoting third-round rookie Carson Beck to the primary backup role.
Demoted to third-string status in Arizona, Brissett suddenly found his career at a crossroads. The trade to Baltimore instantly transforms his outlook, handing him the keys to an offense built for a playoff push. Throwing to weapons like tight end Mark Andrews and wide receiver Zay Flowers while operating behind a solid offensive line gives Brissett the platform to reset his career trajectory and showcase his value as a reliable NFL starter.

Outlook for the Ravens Down the Stretch
Sitting at 4-4, the Ravens remain firmly in the mix for an AFC wild-card spot and within striking distance of the divisional crown. While losing Jackson is a massive blow, bringing in a seasoned 10-year veteran who limits mistakes allows Baltimore to stay afloat in November and December.
If Brissett can manage game scripts, execute in the red zone, and hand the ball to Derrick Henry, the Ravens might just turn a potential season-ending nightmare into one of the most resilient stories of the 2026 season.
