SEATTLE — Under the bright lights of Lumen Field on Monday Night Football, the Chicago Bears delivered their most complete performance of the 2026 season, cruising to a dominant 34-17 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Led by the poised play of quarterback Caleb Williams and a game-wrecking defensive display from tackle Jeffery Simmons, Chicago controlled all four quarters to notch a massive road win and announce themselves as legitimate championship contenders.
Defensive Dominance & The Game-Breaking Moment
The Bears set the tone early in the trenches, spearheaded by veteran defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Simmons was virtually unblockable inside, racking up six combined tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, and a QB hit while taking away any establishing room for Seattle’s ground attack. Alongside Montez Sweat (one sack, three QB hits) and Devin Bush (six tackles, one sack), Chicago’s front seven suffocated Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold throughout the evening.
The turning point of the game arrived midway through the second half. Holding a tight lead, the Bears’ defense generated the night’s game-breaking moment when defensive lineman James Lynch dropped back into coverage, read Darnold’s eyes, and intercepted a pass over the middle. The turnover handed Chicago prime field position, which the offense converted into a touchdown just minutes later to stretch the lead to two possessions.
While Darnold managed to connect with receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for 118 yards and a touchdown and hit Cooper Kupp for a short score, Seattle’s offense was held to a paltry 252 total yards and went an abysmal 1-for-11 on third-down conversions.

Caleb Williams Conducts a Masterclass
Quarterback Caleb Williams looked every bit like an elite franchise signal-caller on the big stage. Williams completed his night with 247 passing yards, one touchdown, and a 101.0 quarterback rating without throwing an interception. Operating with supreme composure in a hostile road environment, Williams spread the ball efficiently across his deep receiving corps.
Wide receiver Rome Odunze picked up crucial gains downfield, logging four catches for 87 yards, including a 24-yard sideline stretch. Tight end Colston Loveland served as a reliable security blanket, hauling in seven receptions for 65 yards. In the red zone, Williams capped off a sustained drive with a sleek touchdown strike to rookie wideout Luther Burden III, who finished with seven catches for 56 yards.
Complementing Williams’ passing masterclass was running back D’Andre Swift, who acted as Chicago’s hammer at the goal line. Swift rushed 27 times for 69 yards and punched in three rushing touchdowns. Dynamic playmaker Kalif Raymond added extra spark to the offense, ripping off a 39-yard rush on a sweep, while kicker Cairo Santos booted two field goals (including a 44-yarder) and four extra points to round out a 34-point output.

Are the Bears the New Favorites in the NFC?
With this prime-time statement, the conversation surrounding the Chicago Bears has officially shifted from playoff hopeful to potential NFC frontrunner.
Williams’ rapid growth in year two has transformed Chicago’s offense from an inconsistent unit into a versatile, highly disciplined machine. His ability to extend plays outside the pocket while protecting the football gives the Bears a high floor in tight games. Combined with a defense capable of taking over game scripts via game-changers like Jeffery Simmons, Montez Sweat, and Jaylon Johnson (five tackles, one TFL), Chicago boasts one of the most balanced rosters in the conference.
Heading down the home stretch of the season, Chicago’s path to the postseason sits squarely in their own hands. If Williams continues to process defenses with this degree of poise and the defensive front maintains its physical edge, no team in the NFC will look forward to seeing the Bears on their schedule come January.
