America East Commissioner Brad Walker Steps Into Key NCAA Oversight Role

With the college basketball season about a month away, the America East Conference has been given an important national responsibility. Commissioner Brad Walker has been named the chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee. Walker has served on the committee since April 2024 and officially began his new duties as chair on Sept. 1.

One of Walker’s primary goals is to advance men’s college basketball while ensuring the best possible experience for student-athletes. As a former standout player at Bentley University, Walker brings a valuable on-court perspective that will help maintain appropriate oversight of the sport.

The committee plays a crucial role in shaping the development and public perception of college basketball, making key recommendations regarding both the regular season and the postseason. While a separate selection committee chooses the actual field for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament—which notably expands to 76 teams this spring—Walker’s Oversight Committee governs the sport’s broader administrative rules, policies, and structure.

Walker brings a wealth of executive experience to the position. Before taking the reins of the America East in 2021, he spent five years serving as the Head of Basketball Operations for the NBA G League.
