Lambeau Stunner: Bijan Robinson, Michael Penix Jr. Lead Falcons to Rout of Packers

Thursday Night Football at Lambeau Field is traditionally a fortress for the Green Bay Packers. Coming into the night with a remarkable 13-game winning streak in home openers, Green Bay expected business as usual. But the Atlanta Falcons—limping into the game at 0-2 and with a fanbase desperate for a spark—had entirely different plans. In front of a stunned national audience, the Falcons completely dismantled the Packers 35-14, leaning on a historic rushing performance and the triumphant return of their young quarterback.

At the center of Atlanta’s offensive masterclass was superstar running back Bijan Robinson, who could not be stopped. The Packers’ defense spent the entire night chasing shadows as Robinson put up a career-defining performance, finishing with 194 rushing yards, 213 total yards from scrimmage, and two touchdowns.

After Green Bay opened the scoring on a Jordan Love touchdown pass to Christian Watson, Robinson completely took over. He answered immediately with a weaving 55-yard run to put Atlanta in the red zone, punching it in on the very next play. In the second half, he broke off another stunning 31-yard run, constantly making Green Bay tacklers miss in open space.

“I always say it’s God-given ability, but for me, I just read the first, second, third level,” Robinson said after the game. “I know where the free hitter is every play. I’m pretty much playing peekaboo with the guys. I’m getting them out their gaps.”

The monumental game also etched Robinson into the history books, making him just the 10th player in NFL history to surpass 6,000 career scrimmage yards by the age of 25.

But Robinson’s ground dominance was only half the story. Thursday night marked the highly anticipated 2026 season debut of quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who had not seen the field since suffering a torn ACL in November of 2025. Early on, the rust was apparent. Penix completed just one of his first five passes and threw an interception, looking like a player adjusting to game speed.

However, as the Falcons’ offensive line began to absolutely punish Green Bay in the trenches—Atlanta outrushed the Packers 242-17 on the night—the passing game opened up. Under the guidance of offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, Penix settled into a brilliant rhythm, completing 17 of his final 20 passes to finish with 239 yards. His crowning moment came right before halftime. Following a crucial field goal block by defensive lineman Zach Harrison, Penix orchestrated a flawless drive that ended with a beautifully designed touchdown pass to an uncovered Austin Hooper, giving Atlanta a 17-7 halftime lead.

Penix’s resurgence unlocked a monster performance from wide receiver Drake London, who hauled in nine catches for a staggering 194 yards. The dual explosion from London and Robinson set an NFL record; it marked the third time the duo surpassed 150 rushing yards and 150 receiving yards in the exact same game, the most by any teammates in league history.

To add insult to injury, the “other” Robinson in Atlanta’s backfield—Brian Robinson Jr.—joined the party in the second half, scoring a 7-yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead to a dominant 20-point margin in the third quarter.

For the Packers, the night was a sheer disaster. The Green Bay offense was completely outmatched by the Falcons’ defensive front, leading to the home crowd mercilessly booing their team off the field on multiple occasions. While Jordan Love managed to engineer a late fourth-quarter drive—capping it with a 15-yard touchdown strike to Matthew Golden to cut the deficit to 27-14—Bijan Robinson slammed the door shut on the ensuing possession with his second touchdown of the night, followed by a successful two-point conversion. Love threw an interception on Green Bay’s final drive to fittingly seal the defeat.

The victory breathed new life into the Atlanta Falcons, who head back south sitting at 1-2 with a suddenly terrifying, balanced offensive attack. The Packers, meanwhile, also drop to 1-2 and are left with serious questions about a defense that just got bullied in their own backyard.
