The fight boxing fans have discussed for years will finally happen this December. Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will meet on Friday, December 11. The heavyweight stars will headline a massive event at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Netflix will stream the fight globally at no additional cost for subscribers. The event will mark one of the biggest British boxing matchups in recent memory. Turki Alalshikh officially confirmed the fight on September 24. The announcement ended years of speculation surrounding the potential showdown. The matchup has faced several delays over the years. However, both sides have finally reached an agreement. Fury enters the fight with a professional record of 36-2-1. He has recorded 25 knockouts during his career. Joshua brings a 30-4 record into the matchup. He has stopped 27 opponents during his professional career.
A Fight Years in the Making
Fury and Joshua have shared the heavyweight spotlight for more than a decade. However, they have never officially fought each other. Their rivalry developed while both men climbed the heavyweight ranks. Fans constantly wondered what would happen if they eventually met. The closest they came to fighting involved negotiations in 2021. Those talks collapsed before the two sides could finalize the matchup. The fighters also crossed paths earlier in their careers. Fury remembers sparring with a young Joshua around 2009 or 2010. Joshua remained an amateur at that time. Fury had already started his professional career. Fury later recalled the sparring session during an interview. Joshua also discussed the encounter during earlier interviews. That gym session never counted as an official fight. Their December meeting will therefore mark their first professional encounter.
Both Fighters Have Taken Different Paths
Fury has experienced plenty of changes since the fight first became possible. He twice faced Oleksandr Usyk and lost both fights. Those defeats marked the first losses of Fury’s professional career. After the second Usyk defeat, Fury announced his retirement. However, he eventually returned to boxing in 2026. Fury most recently defeated Arslanbek Makhmudov by unanimous decision in April. That victory moved him toward another major heavyweight event. Joshua also endured several setbacks before reaching this point. He lost to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. Joshua then returned to action against Jake Paul in December 2025. Joshua stopped Paul in the sixth round. He later defeated Kristian Prenga in his July 2026 comeback fight. Those bouts helped Joshua return to regular competition before the Fury matchup.
Cardiff Will Host the Heavyweight Showdown
The fight will take place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The venue can hold nearly 74,000 fans for major events. The location also gives the fight a strong connection to British boxing. Fury and Joshua both have deep ties to the United Kingdom. Several other locations entered the conversation during negotiations. New York and Las Vegas previously emerged as potential destinations. However, the final agreement brought the fight back to Britain. That decision should create an enormous atmosphere inside the Cardiff stadium. The fight will also receive a worldwide audience through Netflix. The streaming platform confirmed that subscribers can watch without an additional charge.
The Wait Is Finally Over
For years, Fury versus Joshua existed as one of boxing’s biggest hypothetical matchups. The two fighters never found the right combination of timing, contracts and circumstances. Now, those obstacles have finally disappeared. Both men have held multiple heavyweight world titles during their careers. Yet neither currently holds a championship belt entering this fight. That fact does little to reduce the importance of the matchup. Their names, histories and rivalry have already created enormous interest. The December 11 fight will finally answer questions that boxing fans have debated for years. Fury and Joshua will no longer remain potential opponents. Instead, they will finally share the ring as professional heavyweights. The countdown to Cardiff has officially begun.
This is a boxing match that many fight fans have been waiting for.
