The self-proclaimed “Greatest Woman of All Time” added another chapter to boxing history early Sunday morning. Claressa Shields completed a grueling physical transformation, making the drop from heavyweight all the way down to middleweight to defeat Australia’s Kaye Scott via a 6th-round TKO at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
With the stoppage victory, the GWOAT reclaimed the WBA and WBC Middleweight titles, improving her unbeaten professional record to 19-0 (4 KOs).
The 38-Pound Transformation
Heading into the bout, the biggest question mark surrounding the five-division world champion wasn’t her skill, but her stamina. Shields, who still holds undisputed heavyweight championship status, had not fought at the 160-pound limit since June 2023.

“It was a really hard camp. I cut 38 pounds—I started 14 weeks ago at 198 and got down to 160. It was the most disciplined I’ve been since the Olympics.”
— Claressa Shields, post-fight
Game Breakdown: Hand Speed and a Sixth-Round Finish
- Pacing the Workload: Mindful of the massive weight cut, Shields fought cautiously in the opening rounds, using her hand speed and sharp jab to test Scott’s power without over-exerting herself.
- The Body Attack: By the third and fourth frames, Shields began digging hard combinations into Scott’s body, effectively neutralizing the Australian’s forward pressure.
- The Climax (Round 6): Shields stepped on the gas in the sixth, landing a blistering left hook that visibly wobbled Scott. Trapping Scott against the ropes, Shields unleashed an unanswered barrage of power shots. Scott’s corner threw several towels into the ring to save their fighter, forcing the referee to step in and stop the contest at 1:38 of Round 6.
Historic Night in “The A”
Beyond the world titles, the event marked a major milestone for women’s combat sports. Shields became the first Black woman to headline a major boxing event in Atlanta. Accompanied to the ring by Atlanta’s own rapper Latto and partner Papoose, Shields fought in front of a star-studded crowd that included Floyd Mayweather, Terence Crawford, Usher, and Shakur Stevenson.

What’s Next for Shields?
Having proven that her power and hand speed translate back down to 160 pounds, Shields wasted no time laying out her next targets:
- Lauren Price: Shields expressed a strong desire to face Britain’s Olympic gold medalist Lauren Price in a mega-fight targeted for late December or January.
- Undisputed Pursuit: She also left the door open for a clash with Canada’s Tammara Thibeault to fully unify all four major middleweight belts once again.
