Chelsea Green’s latest WWE title run has taken an unfortunate turn. Green confirmed that she suffered a broken orbital bone during the August 7 episode of SmackDown. The injury came only days after she won the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam. Green addressed the injury on social media Saturday. She revealed that doctors diagnosed her with a broken orbital bone around her right eye. She also confirmed that she visited an emergency room after the match. Green admitted that the injury feels different from the issues she has dealt with before. The timing makes the situation even more frustrating for Green. She had just reached another major milestone in her WWE career.
Green Injured During SmackDown Match Green teamed with Tiffany Stratton during Friday’s SmackDown. They faced Fatal Influence members Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid. Green and Stratton ultimately lost the match. Green took the pinfall during the contest. Reports later revealed that Green suffered an injury during the match. Wrestling Observer reporter Bryan Alvarez initially reported the injury. Green then confirmed the news herself. She explained that she ended up in the emergency room after the show. She also described the injury as an occupational hazard of professional wrestling. However, Green made clear that this situation feels more serious to her. That concern makes sense given the location of the injury. The orbital bone surrounds and protects the eye.
Green did not announce a specific recovery timeline. She also did not confirm how long she might miss from WWE television. For now, she plans to take things one day at a time. A Brutal Turn After SummerSlam. The injury arrived at a particularly bad time for Green. She won the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam on August 2. Green captured the championship in a Ladder Match. She defeated Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, and Lash Legend. WWE created the interim championship because Rhea Ripley remains sidelined. Ripley currently deals with a knee injury. Green celebrated the victory as one of the biggest moments of her WWE career. She even appeared on SmackDown wearing a shirt calling herself the “Permanent Champion.”
However, the championship situation remains complicated. WWE presented Green as the Women’s Champion during the August 7 broadcast. Joe Tessitore also referred to her without the interim label. Yet reports indicate that WWE still lists Green internally as the interim champion. Therefore, the company has not officially removed the interim designation behind the scenes. That distinction could become important if Green misses significant time. Green Has No Timetable Yet At this point, WWE has not announced Green’s expected recovery period. Green also has not revealed whether she will need surgery. She has instead focused on processing the injury and recovering.
That leaves several questions surrounding the Women’s Championship. WWE must now determine how it handles Green’s title reign. The company also needs to monitor Ripley’s recovery. Meanwhile, Green faces another setback after finally reaching the top of the division. Her comments showed genuine frustration about the situation. Green has often turned injuries into part of her character. This time, however, she acknowledged that things feel different. She said she needs time to process what happened.
