It was a clash of titans at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, as the New York Knicks (40-23) saw their three-game winning streak snapped in a gritty 103–100 loss to the NBA-best Oklahoma City Thunder (49-15).
In a game that felt like a potential NBA Finals preview, the Knicks nearly pulled off a miracle comeback after a sluggish first half, only for a final-second shot to rim out.
A Tale of Two Halves
The Knicks struggled to find their rhythm early, scoring just 40 points in the first half while shooting 36% from the floor. Meanwhile, Thunder star Chet Holmgren was nearly perfect, lighting up the Garden with 22 first-half points, including four three-pointers in the first eight minutes alone.
However, the third quarter belonged to New York. The Knicks erupted for 40 points in a single frame—doubling their entire first-half output—led by a resurgent Jalen Brunson. A Mikal Bridges corner three at the buzzer gave the Knicks an 80–77 lead heading into the final period.
The Final Stand
The fourth quarter was a defensive slugfest. The Thunder regained the lead with a 15–6 run to open the frame, and the Knicks found themselves in foul trouble early, putting OKC in the bonus for the final six minutes.
The Closing Seconds: After Shai Gilgeous-Alexander buried a step-back three to put OKC up by seven with 1:18 remaining, the Knicks clawed back. Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson combined for a quick 4–0 run to bring it within three.
The Buzzer Beater That Wasn’t: Following a missed jumper by Holmgren, the Knicks had one last chance with 6.0 seconds left. Brunson missed a contested three, and while the Knicks secured the offensive rebound, OG Anunoby’s turnaround attempt at the buzzer rattled off the rim.

Coaching & Controversies
The game wasn’t without drama on the sidelines. Knicks head coach Mike Brown was visibly irate in the first half following a non-call when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander collided with Jalen Brunson. Brown earned a technical foul for his protest, a moment that energized the MSG crowd but ultimately gave OKC a free point in a game decided by just three.
