As we head into late February 2026, the NBA landscape has a clear “top tier” emerging after a chaotic trade deadline. While the regular season standings suggest parity, the betting markets and power rankings are coalescing around a few heavy hitters.
Here are the current favorites to represent each conference in the 2026 NBA Finals.
The Western Conference: The Thunder’s World
The West is currently a hierarchy with the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder at the summit, though two historic challengers are gaining ground.
The Unrivaled Favorite: Oklahoma City Thunder (44–14)
Despite a recent abdominal strain for MVP frontrunner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder remain the heavy favorite (+130) to repeat. They lead the league in net rating and added depth at the deadline with guard Jared McCain. They are the most complete team in the league, ranking in the top five in both offensive and defensive efficiency.
The Executioners: Denver Nuggets (36–22)
Never count out Nikola Jokić. While health has been an issue for Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun, the Nuggets are still priced as the second-most likely champion (+600). Their half-court execution remains the gold standard for playoff basketball.
The Rising Threat: San Antonio Spurs (41–16)
The biggest story of February is the San Antonio Spurs. Riding a nine-game winning streak, Victor Wembanyama has vaulted the Spurs to the No. 2 seed. After a statement double-digit win over Detroit on Monday, their title odds have surged to +950. They are no longer “a year away”—they are a threat right now.
The Eastern Conference: A Four-Horse Race. Unlike the West, the East is “fractured” with four teams holding legitimate claims to the throne.
The Statistical Leader: Detroit Pistons (42–14)
In one of the most remarkable turnarounds in NBA history, the Pistons hold the best record in the Eastern Conference. Led by Cade Cunningham, Detroit has the No. 2 defense in the league. However, skeptics wonder if their lack of veteran “closer” experience will hurt them in a seven-game series against the giants.
The “All-In” Contender: Cleveland Cavaliers (36–22)
The Cavs made the biggest splash of the trade deadline by acquiring James Harden. Since the trade, Cleveland has been “on fire,” combining Harden’s playmaking with Donovan Mitchell’s scoring. They currently lead the East in points per game and are the “sharp” pick to win the conference.
The Giants in Waiting: Boston Celtics & New York Knicks
- Boston (37–19): Everything hinges on Jayson Tatum’s recovery from an Achilles injury. If he returns at 80-90% for the playoffs, the Celtics’ roster—bolstered by the deadline addition of Nikola Vučević—is arguably the most talented in the East.
- New York (37–21): The Knicks are the “toughness” pick. After adding Jose Alvarado to an already elite defense, they are built specifically to grind out playoff series.
2026 Championship Odds Snapshot
| Team | Odds to Win Title | Conference Rank |
| OKC Thunder | +130 | 1st (West) |
| Denver Nuggets | +600 | 4th (West) |
| San Antonio Spurs | +950 | 2nd (West) |
| Boston Celtics | +1100 | 2nd (East) |
| Cleveland Cavaliers | +1100 | 4th (East) |
| Detroit Pistons | +1200 | 1st (East) |
The Verdict: If the playoffs started today, the smart money is on an OKC vs. Cleveland or OKC vs. Boston Finals. The Thunder are simply too deep and too disciplined to pick against in the West, while the East will likely come down to whichever team (Boston or Cleveland) is healthier come May.
