Last night was a night of individual brilliance and surprising upsets across the NBA. While Kawhi Leonard turned back the clock with a career-best performance in Los Angeles, a historic scoring streak in Portland wasn’t enough to save the Celtics from a resilient Blazers squad.
The Performance of the Year: Kawhi Drops 55 on Detroit
In what many are calling the most dominant individual performance of the season, Kawhi Leonard erupted for a career-high 55 points to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 112–99 victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons.
- The “Klaw” is Back: Leonard was a literal machine, tallying 51 of his 55 points through just three quarters. He finished the night shooting 17-of-24 from the field and added 7 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 blocks.
- Supporting Cast: James Harden chipped in 28 points, helping the Clippers extend their winning streak to a season-high four games and proving they can still compete with the league’s elite when healthy.
Celtics Fall Despite Jaylen Brown’s Historic Run
The Portland Trail Blazers pulled off the upset of the night, defeating the Boston Celtics 114–108.
- While Jaylen Brown continued his torrid scoring run with 37 points, marking his ninth consecutive game with 30+ points and tying the legendary Larry Bird for the longest such streak in Celtics history, it wasn’t enough to overcome Portland’s balanced attack.
- The Blazers were led by Shaedon Sharpe, who poured in 26 points on 5-of-8 shooting from deep, and a massive double-double from rookie Donovan Clingan, who bullied the Celtics inside for 18 points and 18 rebounds.
Western Dominance: OKC Moves to 27–5
The “Unicorn” Unleashed: Chet Holmgren’s Big Night
While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the engine, Chet Holmgren was the spark in the 129–104 rout of Philadelphia. Holmgren finished with 29 points and 9 rebounds, shooting a hyper-efficient 12-of-17 from the field.
- Second-Half Surge: After a tight first half (OKC led 64–62), Holmgren and SGA combined for 24 points in the third quarter alone, spearheading a 38–24 run that blew the game open.
- Defensive Anchor: Beyond the scoring, Holmgren’s presence in the paint forced 23 Philadelphia turnovers, which the Thunder converted into 31 points.
Luka and LeBron in Sync
- The Los Angeles Lakers snapped a frustrating three-game losing streak in emphatic fashion on Sunday night, dismantling the Sacramento Kings 125–101 at Crypto.com Arena. Led by a dominant Luka Dončić, who poured in a game-high 34 points and controlled the tempo from the jump, the Lakers managed to win all four quarters for the first time this season.
- LeBron James was nearly perfect, contributing 24 points on a hyper-efficient 11-of-13 (84%) shooting, highlighted by a pair of vintage alley-oop dunks that electrified the home crowd.
Stat of the Night
51: The number of points Kawhi Leonard had at the end of the 3rd quarter. He is only the third NBA player in the last decade to cross the 50-point mark before the start of the final frame.
