BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team earned a 1-0 shutout over Northeastern at Friedman Diamond on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles improved to 8-11 on the season, while the Huskies dropped to 12-8-1.
Junior second baseman Luke Gold (Ballston, N.Y.) drove in a run in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly to left that was knocked down by the wind. In the bottom half, NU loaded the bases against junior RHP Max Gieg (Lynn, Mass.) with just one away, but escaped the jam with a strikeout and tapper in front of the plate.
Gieg (1-1) got the win with three innings of work. He struck out three with no walks. Graduate RHP Brendan Coffey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) picked up a two-inning save with two strikeouts.
Sophomore left fielder Travis Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) hit a leadoff single in the first and scored the only run of the game. He finished the day 2-for-4 with a double.
Huskies righty Eric Yost (1-1) lasted four innings in the start. He struck out seven with no walks and surrendered five hits.
