JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior right-hander Joe Mancini (Fairfield, Conn.) pitched seven shutout innings to start the weekend with a 7-0 win for the Boston College baseball team at North Florida on Friday night at Harmon Ballpark. The Eagles improved to 3-4, while the Ospreys dropped to 2-9.
Mancini (2-0) tied his career-high with seven innings pitched. He scattered three hits, struck out six, and did not issue a walk. For UNF, righty Max McKinley (0-1) struck out 10 in six innings but surrendered five runs on seven hits and two walks.
Freshman RHP Julian Tonghini (New Canaan, Conn.) pitched the final two innings to secure the Eagles’ shutout.
Boston College jumped on McKinley early with a three-run home run from sophomore first baseman Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) in the first. He finished the game 2-for-5 and extended his hit-streak to seven games. Sophomore right fielder Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) added a solo home run in the fifth inning.
