BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team overcame an early, three-run deficit to defeat Rhode Island, 6-4, at the Harrington Athletics Village on Wednesday in the earliest home game played in program history. The BC Eagles improved to 6-1, while the Rams dropped to 2-5.

Trailing 3-0 before getting a turn at bat, BC responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and took the lead with two more in the second. A leadoff-walk to senior left fielder Chris Galland (Sudbury, Mass.) followed by a junior center fielder Sal Frelick (Lexington, Mass.) double put two runners in scoring position and both came around to home.

An inning later, sophomore catcher Parker Landwehr (Baltimore, Md.) drew a leadoff-walk, and graduate right fielder Dante Baldelli (Cumberland, R.I.) doubled. Each runner scored on an infield-single by Frelick with Baldelli crossing the plate on a throwing error on the play.

Frelick finished the day 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Baldelli doubled twice in a 2-for-4 effort with two runs.

Freshman lefty Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) started on the mound and surrendered three runs on three singles and two walks. Freshman right-hander Joey Ryan (Norwood, Mass.) threw the second and third innings; earning the win in two-shutout frames. Ryan (2-0) allowed two hits and did not walk a batter.

For URI, Jake Walker pitched the first inning and was pulled without an out in the second as he gave up three runs on three hits and two walks. Lefty Broc French (0-1) suffered the loss with one run against on four hits with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work.
