Two weeks to go in the New York Penn League regular season and here how things stand in the league.
The Staten Island Yankees pitching staff has recorded ten shutouts this summer which leads the league by three over Tri-City who has seven. This is good news for a Yankees organization that boast top pitching honors in Triple-A and Double-A ball as well. The staff era of 2.54 is a half run better than the rest of the league.
Denyi Reyes of the Lowell Spinners is having a great season on the hill. His 8-0 win loss record, to go along with a 1.54 ERA are tops in the circuit. As a reliever, he is second in lowest BB-IBB/9IP Ratio at 1.21 (seven in 52.0 IP). He has been an inning eater for the Spinners.
Wilkerman Garcia of Staten Island has found his name in the starting lineup a lot this year. It is why he is tied for the lead in games at 55, and in at bats with 212. If there is a down side to all that play and swings is he is tied for the fourth in most strikeouts with 60.
It has been a bit of a tough season in Brooklyn and one guy trying to make the most of it is Reed Gamache. He is second in the lowest TPA/SO Ratio at 9.83 but is tied for most grounded into double plays at eight.
Another sign of the troubles in Brooklyn can be found with Pitcher Trent Johnson. He leads the NYPL in runs allowed with 40, and in earned runs allowed with 37.
Closer James Teague is doing his job for Aberdeen. He ranks tied for third in games finished with 13, tied in Saves with seven.
Jonathan Tearney of Mahoning Valley also has finished 13 games for the Scrappers this season. He stands fifth in lowest batting average at .188 (16 for 85) and is number one in highest SO/9 IP Ratio 14.15 ( 38 in 24.1 IP).
Two races to keep a watch on are in the Wildcard chase. Hudson Valley has a 1.5 game lead over both Mahoning Valley and Aberdeen. In the Pinckney Division, West Virginia has a 1 game lead over Mahoning Valley there as well.
Next week we will take a look at how the final week shapes up before the playoff begins.
