This is our second installment of Spinners notes as they continue on in the New York Penn League.
Roster moves seem to be coming fast and furious with this team, and for different reasons. Over this past weekend, two members of the team were traded. Infielders Imeldo Diaz and Stanley Espinal were both dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. They were moved to help the parent team get a better spot in the international draft that was taking place.
The move opened up a spot for a member of the 2017 draft class to make his Lowell debut. Michael Osinski, taken in the 31st round out of Longwood University made his first NY-Penn start for Lowell in their win over Vermont on Monday night. The 6-2185-poundnd Shortstop went 0-3 at the plate, and committed an error in the game.
Dakota Smith has been pitching very well for the team this season. In three starts he has given up only two earned runs in 14.2 innings pitched. Opponents were batting just .154 against him. His earned run average of 1.23 has him in the top ten in the league.
Another player doing well in the earlier going is first baseman Raiwinson Lameda, who has played in 13 of the first 14 games to date. He had a seven game hit streak snapped VS Vermont on Monday night. Before the streak ended his numbers were, a 306/ .333/. 429 stat line.
The 2016 first round draft pick, Jason Groome is heading back to the Greenville Drive in class A ball. He made three starts for the Spinners in his rehab going 0-2 with a 1.64 ERA. In 11.0 innings pitched Groome gave up five hits, four runs only two earned, strikeout 14 and gave up five walks. He did allow a home run. Last night in his return for the Drive he threw five one-hit innings with 7K’s and 1 BB.
