Coming off a season in which he played every second of every game, Merrimack College goaltender Max Lundgren signed a one-year entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins on Sunday. He leaves the program after setting the single-season record for saves with 1,134 and establishing a record for minutes played at over 2,332. Lundgren was named the MVP of the Hockey East tournament after leading the Warriors to their first-ever championship, punctuated by a 49-save performance in the title game against UConn. He was also a unanimous selection as the Goaltender of the Tournament after stopping 130 of 136 shots across four games.
In the two games played at TD Garden, Lundgren stopped 73 of 74 shots, posting a .986 save percentage and a 0.50 goals-against average. In the semifinals against UMass Amherst, he recorded a 24-save shutout, the first in the Hockey East semifinals in 12 years. His performance at the Garden, combined with his consistency during the regular season, impressed Bruins GM Don Sweeney enough to offer him the deal. Lundgren’s final numbers for the 2025-26 season included 38 starts, a 21-16-2 record, a 2.55 GAA, and a .920 save percentage. For his career at Merrimack, he appeared in 63 games, maintaining a 2.67 GAA and a .914 save percentage.
The Ängelholm, Sweden native noted that he was first invited to the Bruins’ development camp back in December, and those conversations continued throughout the regular season. Following the Warriors’ elimination from the NCAA Hockey Tournament by North Dakota, Lundgren was officially offered the contract. He is set to report to the Bruins’ American Hockey League affiliate in Providence in a few weeks. Signing the contract in front of teammates and members of the media, Lundgren said, “Obviously, very excited,” and called it “a dream come true to sign an NHL contract.” His coach, Scott Borek, called the achievement tremendous and expressed his happiness at seeing it happen in the team’s own backyard.
