As the 2026 Men’s NCAA Tournament moves into its second weekend, Thursday night’s Sweet 16 schedule features a heavy dose of Big Ten dominance and a massive home-court advantage in the South Region. With two regions—the West and the South—kicking off the action, the path to the Final Four in Indianapolis is officially narrowing.
Here is your preview of the Thursday, March 26, matchups.
West Regional
Location: SAP Center | San Jose, CA
No. 2 Purdue vs. No. 11 Texas
- Time: 7:10 p.m. ET (CBS)
- The Vibe: The steady giant vs. the tournament’s ultimate survivor.
- The Matchup: Texas is the only double-digit seed remaining, having journeyed all the way from the First Four in Dayton. They are led by Lithuanian center Matas Vokietaitis, who has been a revelation in the tournament. They face a Purdue team led by Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn. While Purdue looks to exorcise past tournament demons, Texas is playing with “house money” after upsetting Gonzaga to get here.
- Key Factor: Can Texas’s interior defense contain Kaufman-Renn, or will Purdue’s disciplined execution finally end the Longhorns’ Cinderella run?
No. 1 Arizona vs. No. 4 Arkansas
- Time: 9:45 p.m. ET (CBS)
- The Vibe: A high-octane battle between two of the nation’s most athletic rosters.
- The Matchup: Arizona has been the most dominant team in the tournament so far, winning their first two games by a combined 46 points. Arkansas, however, is a Sweet 16 regular, making their fifth appearance in the last six years. Freshman star Darius Acuff Jr. leads a Razorback attack that thrives on chaos and transition scoring.
- Key Factor: Pace. Both teams want to run, but Arizona’s balance (four players scoring in double figures) might be too much for the Razorbacks to match if the game turns into a shootout.
South Regional
Location: Toyota Center | Houston, TX
No. 4 Nebraska vs. No. 9 Iowa
- Time: 7:30 p.m. ET (TBS/truTV)
- The Vibe: An all-Big Ten grudge match on the national stage.
- The Matchup: History has already been made for Nebraska, as Fred Hoiberg led the program to its first-ever NCAA tournament wins last week. They meet a familiar foe in Iowa, who pulled off the upset of the tournament by knocking off No. 1 seed Florida on a late three-pointer. These two teams split their regular-season series, making this the ultimate rubber match.
- Key Factor: History vs. Momentum. Nebraska is in uncharted territory, while Iowa is riding the high of a “giant-slaying” victory.
No. 2 Houston vs. No. 3 Illinois
- Time: 10:05 p.m. ET (TBS/truTV)
- The Vibe: The “Home Game” vs. the “Tallest Team.”
- The Matchup: Houston is playing in its own backyard at the Toyota Center, where the Cougars’ 4th-ranked defense will be tested by the nation’s 2nd-most efficient offense. Illinois is famously tall and physical, led by freshman Keaton Wagler. Houston counters with their suffocating defensive pressure and star guard Kingston Flemings.
- Key Factor: The Crowd. Houston thrives on energy, and with a “home” crowd behind them, Illinois will need to weather an early emotional storm to keep their offense on track.
