The U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team punched its ticket to the 2026 Gold Medal Game in emphatic fashion on Monday, silencing Sweden 5–0 in the semifinals at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena. The victory extends one of the most statistically overwhelming runs in Olympic history and sets up a high-stakes finale against a familiar foe.
Team USA has now logged five consecutive shutouts, outscoring their Olympic opponents by a staggering combined margin of 31–1 through six games.
Frankel’s Historic Goose Egg
Goaltender Aerin Frankel (Boston Fleet) was once again spectacular, turning aside all 23 shots she faced.
- The Record: Frankel became the first goaltender in women’s Olympic history to record three shutouts in a single tournament.
The Streak: The Americans have not allowed a goal in over 330 minutes of play, a run of defensive perfection that dates back to the second period of their tournament opener.
The Second Period Blitz
After a tightly contested first period that saw the U.S. lead just 1–0 on a Cayla Barnes blast from the right circle, the Americans blew the game open in the second frame.
- The Explosion: Team USA scored three goals in a span of just 2:47 late in the second period.
- Goal Scorers: Taylor Heise doubled the lead early in the period, followed by rapid-fire strikes from Abbey Murphy, Kendall Coyne Schofield, and Hayley Scamurra.
Team Effort: The depth of this roster was on full display, with five different players finding the back of the net and 13 different players recording a point.

The Final: A Seventh Meeting for Gold
The stage is now officially set for the most storied rivalry in women’s sports. Team USA will face Canada for the gold medal on Thursday, February 19.
Canada secured its spot with a gritty 2–1 win over Switzerland in the other semifinal. While the U.S. defeated Canada 5–0 during the preliminary round, the Canadians were without captain Marie-Philip Poulin for that matchup. Thursday’s final will be the seventh time in eight Olympics that these two powerhouses meet with the gold on the line.
