While August means the “dog days of summer” are here for some, in college football, it means something else. For the Boston College Eagles, camp is already in progress as the team gets ready for the home opener vs Fordham on Aug. 30. From now until then, preparations for that game and the season ahead become top priority.
Head coach Bill O’Brien begins his second year as the head man of the program. His first year was a success with the team playing in a bowl game in New York at Yankee Stadium. Bigger goals are on the table for 2025 as the team looks to take another step up in the league. The schedule for 2025 is, one might say, loaded. In the final rankings posted by USA Today after spring ball concluded, Boston College was ranked at #51. Not a bad spot to be in early May. Their schedule has seven teams ranked ahead of them at this time. Clemson at #2, Notre Dame at #5, Louisville at #16, Georgia Tech at #34, SMU at #40, Syracuse at #43, and Pittsburgh at $46. Of those teams, four will be home games for the Eagles. There will be three on the road.
The rest of the schedule has BC playing teams that are ranked behind them as of early May. Michigan State at #68, Connecticut at #79, California at #92, and Stanford at #115. Two of those games are at home against California and Connecticut. There will be two road games against Michigan State and Stanford, both in September. You get the idea, and the Eagles will have to be a good home team in 2025 if another bowl game is in the cards.
To date, six practices have been held. According to team members, the squad is getting better every time they step on the practice field. It has been good competition, and the practice has been fun. There is depth on this team with the defensive backfield and running backs coming to mind. The offensive line did graduate some pretty good players from a year ago. However, the youth and depth of that group are a plus that just need some experience.
Three weeks away from opening day and still plenty of work to be done before the Fordham Rams come to Alumni Stadium on August 30.
