For the third time in program history, a Florida State baseball player was named the college baseball National Player of the Year. Shortstop Alex Lodise joins J.D. Drew in 1997 and Buster Posey in 2008 as the college baseball Player of the Year. The two-time First Team All-American had a terrific season both at the plate and with the glove.
At the plate, Lodise ranked 9th in the country in hits (95), 11th in total bases (170), 12th in hits per game (1.64), and 23rd in batting average (.394). In the conference, he was third in RBi with 68, fourth in slugging percentage at .705, and fifth in triples with 3. He also hit 17 home runs, 18 doubles, scored 62 runs, had 27 base on balls, and was a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts. Lodise started all 58 games for the Seminoles and had a hit in 48 of those games. In 31 games, he had multi-hit efforts. In 13 games, he had three or more hits, and was held hitless only 10 times. Alex had only one hit in 17 games, and just for kicks, he is considered the only player at either the college or pro level to finish off a cycle with a walk-off grand slam HR.
In the field, Lodise had a fielding percentage of .977 and committed just five errors in 215 total fielding chances. He was a part of 34 double plays turned by the Seminoles’ defense. At season’s end, he was named both the ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year. By late season, he was ranked as the #1 shortstop in the nation.
Florida State finished the 2025 season with a 42-15 record, 7-10 in league play. Their winning percentage was at .630, which left them in second place at the end of the year. They were the number two seed in the league’s postseason tournament, where they eventually lost to North Carolina in the finals. In the NCAA Tournament, they would win the Tallahassee Regional only to lose in the Super Regionals at Oregon State. The appearance in the supers was their second straight trip.
