At 6 p.m. EST on Sunday, June 30th, the full 2024 NBA free agency period started. One of the biggest free agents this offseason, Paul George had many teams and waiting players waiting for his decision after it was announced he would not be returning to the Los Angeles Clippers. Around 3:30 a.m. EST, reports broke that George would be signing a four-year, $212 max contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. With the biggest domino of free agency falling within the first 24 hours, it can be expected that many decisions will be made following PG joining the Sixers. Prior to and within the first few hours of free agency, several stories broke, as well as numerous names inking new deals.

Klay Thompson Leaving Golden State Warriors

After more than a decade with the Golden State Warriors, Klay Thompson is leaving the team. In his last season with the team, Thompson averaged 17.9 PPG while shooting 43% from the field and 38% from three. Thompson has struggled the last few seasons following his numerous leg injuries. Reports have noted Thompson has been looking for a bigger contract, something the Warriors did not want to offer Klay, looking more towards a two-year deal. The most recent reports have said Klay wants a fresh start and will be meeting with several teams including the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Los Angeles Clippers. The Warriors are currently working with Thompson to execute a sign-and-trade deal for Thompson.

Chris Paul Waived by Warriors, Intends to Sign with Spurs

After not being able to find a trade for the veteran guard, the Golden State Warriors have waived Chris Paul. In his single season with the Warriors, CP3 averaged 9.2 PPG, 6.8 APG, and 3.9 RPG in 58 games. Heading into year 20, CP3 is set to become an unrestricted free agent. The San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Clippers are two teams that have already been linked to the veteran guard. The Warriors reportedly turned down a trade from the Chicago Bulls that would’ve sent CP3 and Andrew Wiggins for two-time All-Star Zach Lavine. It would later be reported by Chris Haynes that CP3 intends to sign with the San Antonio Spurs.

James Harden Returning to the Clippers

James Harden will be returning to the Los Angeles Clippers on a two-year, $70 million deal. In 72 games with the Clippers following a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers, Harden averaged 16.6 PPG, 8.5 APG, and 5.1 RPG. There were very few teams linked to Harden due to his actions over the last handful of years. Harden returns alongside Kawhi Leonard as the two superstars with the Clippers. With Paul George leaving the Clippers for the Sixers, it is expected the team will be looking for a third star, with names such as Klay Thompson and DeMar DeRozan already being linked to the team.
