It may be hard for some to believe, especially with the official start of summer now underway, but college hockey programs across the country are starting to release their schedules for the fall. The UMass Lowell River Hawks are one of those programs. The 35-game schedule features two in-season tournaments, plus games against schools in five total conferences. Besides Hockey East, the River Hawks have games vs teams in the NCHC, Atlantic, and ECAC, as well as the Independent. It is also a schedule that will feature more road games (19) than home games (16). Head coach Norm Bazin is hoping that the mix in the schedule, as well as more road tests, will help the team when it comes to postseason consideration.

The team will begin the season by making its longest road trip of the entire season when it heads to Alaska-Anchorage on October 7 & 8. The two teams met last New Year’s Eve weekend in Lowell with Alaska-Anchorage taking both games. Some point to that series of games as being the beginning of the second-half difficulties the team endured. After a weekend off to recover from the long trip, the River Hawks will head back on the road to take on Colgate (Oct-20-21). The home opener will not happen until the end of the month when the UConn Huskies visit Tsongas Center on October 27.

The first of two tournaments will take place on Thanksgiving weekend as the River Hawks, along with Merrimack, will host the Turkey Leg Classic. Bentley and the Army Black Knights round out the field. UMass Lowell is the defending champion of this tournament which last took place in 2019. The other in-season event will begin the 2024 phase of the season. The River Hawks will head to Arizona to play in the Desert Hockey Classic, with Harvard and Omaha also in the field. The tournament takes place on the first weekend of the new year January 5-6.

Other non-conference games set for this year included Holy Cross on December 8 and AIC on the 30th. The regular season ends with a series vs New Hampshire on March 8-9. The 2024 Hockey East Tournament will begin on March 13 with the semi-finals and championship game on March 22 & 23 at TD Garden in Boston, MA.
