PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Eagles lost several key players in the 2023 off-season. The biggest loss was defensive tackle, Javon Hargrave. He was not only a key part of the defensive line alongside Fletcher Cox but a fan favorite. Eagles fans will miss screaming “Gravedigger”. Other key losses included safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and running back Miles Sanders.

The Eagles didn’t waste time making moves to address these key positions. With pick number 9 in the draft, the Eagles selected former Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle Jalen Carter. He was one of the biggest stories of the draft as he went from an obvious top 5 pick to uncertainty after a fatal car crash killed one of his teammates and a team employee. The tragedy was the result of a street race.

However, it’s time for Carter to move on and do his best to focus on professional football. The Eagles also made a big splash in the draft after a trade with the Detroit Lions to acquire running back D’Andre Swift.

The selection of another former Georgia Bulldogs star, cornerback Keelie Ringo will also help the Eagles’ defense. Keeping veteran defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was also a huge deal. The defense has three outstanding defensive tackles in Cox, Carter, and Jordan Davis. It’s important to remember that Davis has several teammates he’s familiar with. Davis, Carter, Ringo, and linebacker Nakobe Dean were all on the Georgia Bulldogs. The Eagles are using a ten-building strategy that most NFL teams don’t use: acquiring former college stars who played together. It’ll be interesting to see how this young defensive core group plays over the course of several seasons. It’s important to look at the bigger picture. This Eagles defense is still a powerhouse. Nothing will change. Also having one of the best shutdown corners in the game, Darius Slay, helps.

On offense, the Eagles will possibly be even better in 2023. Quarterback Jalen Hurts has more rapport with wide receiver A.J. Brown. DeVonte Smith has another year under his belt. If Swift stays healthy and balls out, then Philadelphia likely added a 1,000+ yard running back to the team to go with top-tier receivers. Swift never gained close to 1,000 yards in any of his seasons with the Lions. However, he’s in a better offense now and has a golden opportunity to have a career season in 2023.

Prediction:

The Eagles will end the regular season with a 12-5 record, first place in the NFC East.
