Against All Odds: Super Bowl LVII

Are you a degenerate gambler? Perhaps you’re someone who picks games against the spread just for fun and to see how smart you really aren’t? If this describes you, or if you just like to be entertained by a crazy sports columnist, you’re in luck, because you’ve stumbled across Against All Odds: NCAA and NFL Picks, a weekly post from the start of the football season, all the way to the Super Bowl, where me, Mike Drakulich (PSN), the man behind Pittsburgh SportsNation, takes on my father, Michael J. Drakulich (MJD), in picking NCAA and NFL games against the Vegas line! Check out the Draftkings welcome offer to see how you can win big and find many bonuses.

I cover both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pitt Panthers during the season for the fabulous NGSCSports.com!

Normally, we always include the local teams here in Western Pennsylvania, which are Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia, and the Pittsburgh Steelers among our weekly picks. This gives me the chance to take shots at the opposing teams I really dislike, enraging certain readers, and adding delight to my busy weekends.

All in all, both my dad and I are pretty good at picking these games, but don’t take our word for it. You’re on your own when you place your bets, so don’t blame us if you lose… but you can share your winnings with us if you wish.

Itchy vs Scratchy. Pepsi vs Coke. Black Spy vs White Spy. Cheers vs Gary’s Old Towne Tavern. History is full of rivalries, but none are better than father vs son! Who will rise above the other this season and become the 2022-23 Against All Odds Champion?

All good things must end, at least until next September… it’s the season finale for Against All Odds, as we conclude the season with Super Bowl LVII.

It was a bounce back season for me, getting back above .500, and finally getting back the Odds Championship from my dad, who had a four year run with the title. The great thing was us both finishing above .500! For me, with one game left, 101-91 is pretty good.

Super Bowl Sunday is always a great day for football lovers, as some place a few wagers, while most everyone gathers up a bevy of snacks and food for the NFL Championship Game.

Thank you all for reading All Odds this year… catch you all in September!

Week 23

Against All Odds Lines as of 2/11/2023

Sunday, February 12th

Super Bowl LVII

#1 Kansas City Chiefs (16-3) at #1 Philadelphia Eagles (16-3)

Game Time: 6:30 PM at State Farm Stadium, Glendale, AZ.

Vegas Line: Philadelphia -1.5

The Pick: PSN: Kansas City | MJD: Kansas City

Super Bowl LVII has arrived and it’s going to be an epic battle.

Kansas City has Patrick Mahomes, the league’s best quarterback, who has a rag tag group of wide receivers in Juju Smith Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, and Kadarius Toney, but he also has the league’s best tight end in Travis Kelce. Isiah Pacheco is a speed burner at running back, and Jerick McKinnon brings a veteran presence when needing short yards. The Chiefs offense averages 29.2 points per game.

Philadelphia boast Jalen Hurts, who has the Eagles scoring 28.1 points per game. Hurts has a pair of stud receivers in A.J. Brown and DeVonte Smith, with the very reliable Dallas Goedert at tight end. Miles Sanders has come into his at as the starting running back, with Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott also seeing plenty of time.

Philadelphia has a stout defense, giving up just 20.2 points a game, but their pass rush is ferocious, taking down opposing quarterbacks 69 times.

The Chiefs aren’t too bad either, allowing 21.7 points a game.

This game will come down to who plays the cleaner game, not taking dumb penalties, and especially not turning the ball over.

Kansas City has to keep Philadelphia’s relentless pass rush away from Mahomes, who injured his ankle in KC’s playoff victory over Jacksonville.

I like Kansas City head coach Andy Reid to draw up some trap plays for Mahomes to catch Philly’s defense off guard, and come crunch time, to rise up and win a game, by all accounts, feels like Eagles all the way.

The Chiefs take care of business and stun the Eagles with a late Mahomes clutch drive.
