SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco 49ers (10-4) are the hottest team in the NFL right now. Seemingly out of nowhere, this team went from waiting until next year to this being a playoff year. The 49ers won six games in a row and look to notch another win against a tough NFC East foe, the 7-6-1 Washington Commanders. The 49ers sic game-win streak started against the Los Angeles Rams on October 30. Since then, this team won against the Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Seattle Seahawks.
It’s important to remember that the 2022 NFL Draft’s “Mr. Irrelevant” Brock Purdy came in to play quarterback for the injured Jimmy Garrapolo. Since substituting for Garrapolo in the game against the Dolphins, Purdy played like a quarterback with either a chip on his shoulder or the epitome of a professional quarterback with a professional attitude. The latter is more likely the case for Purdy. This rookie quarterback came into a high-pressure situation to keep the winning streak and playoff hopes alive. He’s keeping the winning streak and playoff hopes alive for sure but he’s doing it with a lot of success. He’s not struggling to get through games as a game manager. He’s going out there and just playing dominant football. How many teams now regret not selecting Purdy when they had the chance? Since playing against Miami, Purdy passed for 678 yards and two touchdowns. As much as any football fan wants to point out that defenses will figure him out, it’s important to give the last selection of the 2022 draft respect.
This quarterback wasn’t even on the radar for most teams but the 49ers took a chance on him. Rookies often hear the familiar line “be ready to play at any moment because you never know when your first chance will arrive”. In Purdy’s case, that first chance probably came much sooner than expected. His quarterback rating is 100.6. The trade for Christian McCaffrey clearly panned out for San Francisco too. The team has a top-five defense in addition to that.
Will the San Francisco 49ers continue this hot steak against Carson Wentz and the lightning-fast Terry McLaurin (“Scary Terry”)?
This game will start at 4:05 p.m. Eastern Time today. Most games will start today at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time due to Christmas Sunday.

A snowstorm is impacting several states and will have several NFL games either being played in temperatures feeling like below zero degrees. Two notable games for watching football in the elements are the Cleveland Browns (6-8) vs New Orleans Saints (5-9) and Kansas City Chiefs (11-3) vs Seattle Seahawks (7-7). Cleveland has a high temperature of eight degrees and a low temperature of five degrees. Kansas City has a high temperature of 18 degrees and a low temperature of 5 degrees. Will fans still go to the games and fill the seats? Football favs are generally tough and will show up despite any conditions. Access to freeways, streets, and roads may be the challenging part.
