We continue to take a look at how America East teams are getting ready for the year ahead. Time to check in on University of Maryland Baltimore County. Men’s head basketball coach Jim Ferry has added some experience to his coaching staff over the summer. His name is Brain Baudinet, and he joins the staff after spending the past four seasons in New Milford, CT. as the head boys basketball coach at Canterbury school. When not roaming the sidelines, Baudinet was also the assistant director of admission for the school. There is a bit of history between Ferry and Baudinet. At Duquesne, when Ferry was the head man, Baudinet was one of his assistants for three seasons. Some of his duties included recruiting and player development.
At Canterberry, Baudinet compiled a record of 87-19 overall. In the tri-state league, the team went 32-3. He has back-to-back Coach of the Year awards in the NEPSAC Class B. The years were 2018-19 and 2019-20. In the 2019-20 season, Canterberry won the NEPSAC Class B championship with a record of 25-2. They would win 19 straight at the end of the season to claim the title. In fact, in the four seasons Baudinet was at the school they would make semi-final appearances in each of those years. Baudinet spent some time in Tulsa with the 66ers of the NBA G-League. The team was a part of the Oklahoma City Thunders. He wore several hats during his stay in Oklahoma City. He was an assistant coach, video analyst and had duties in player development. He got the chance to work with several players who would spend some time in the association.
He also made stops at American International College and Trinity College in Connecticut. In addition, the Retrievers have released their non-conference basketball schedule for the upcoming year. Seven home games are scheduled, and noteworthy are games against Princeton on November 14 and Morgan State on December 10. The seven road games have both Georgetown on Thanksgiving Saturday, and Maryland on December 29. A challenging schedule to be sure to get the Retrievers ready for the America East season that will start after the new year.
