Washington D.C.- Will the Washington Football Team be the king of the NFC East once again? Will the Dallas Cowboys throw a wrench in Washington’s bid to be the division champion once more?

WFT exceeded expectations in its first season under the new team name. Now, with veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm of the offense, Washington seems poised to take control of this division early. The team will likely experience little competition from the rebuilding Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants. However, the new and improved Dallas Cowboys may be an entirely different matter. Dallas added some much-needed key defensive players via the draft mainly former Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons. The Cowboys need quarterback Dak Prescott to stay healthy though to have a chance. The offense that consists of Prescott, Cee Dee Lamb, Amari Cooper, Micheal Gallup, and Ezekiel Elliott will put up points in bunches.

Washington’s offense could have a big year too with Fitzpatrick, standout deep threat receiver Terry McLaurin, and running back Antonio Gibson. It’s really the defense that gives this team the edge over the competition. Second-year defensive end Chase Young out of Ohio State will certainly be an impact player. An established defense is one that makes a huge difference in the end. Washington is number two in total defense last season. Will the defense continue to step it up in 2021?

We still don’t know what to expect from the Cowboys defense but the fact the Dallas drafted Parsons and Jabril Cox should make a huge difference. The Cowboys could get better play out the defensive line as well as this was an issue last season. Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence could make a big impact once again. Randy Gregory will return this season which should be a big boost. Linebackers Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander-Esch should also be ready to make big-time plays for the Dallas defense. Cornerback Trevon and Diggs and Safety Domantae Kazee could be excellent in pass coverage which is exactly what the Cowboys need. Safety Malik Hooker should also contribute in the secondary.

Which team will ultimately prevail at the end of the season? Chances are Washington will take the division again but don’t underestimate the Dallas Cowboys.

Projected finish with 17 game season

Washington Football Team 11-6
Dallas Cowboys 9-8
Philadelphia Eagles 6-11
New York Giants 5-12
