Yesterday, TSU head coach, Johnny Jones spoke to members of the media. He fielded many questions about his team being ready to take on Mount St. Mary’s today at 4:10 PM in Indianapolis in the NCAA First Four.

I asked him about the two previous meetings against Prarie View and what his team did differently the third time around that resulted in TSU winning the SWAC title and the right to go to the Big Dance. The coach broke down each game telling me what failed in the first two and how he was able to make the necessary adjustments in the SWAC title game.

I asked him if he and his staff have watched any film on their opponent and he went into the preparation and what needs to be done by his Tigers team if they are to prevail and move on to take on top-ranked Michigan in the East region. The coach was careful to point out that he is aware that this is an unknown opponent and that the Tigers will have to bring their A-game to have a chance at winning.

We also talked about what he is expecting from his team the first five to ten minutes of the game. I asked him about managing their emotions and he told me he is aware that there will be butterflies and nerves will be tested. But he was firm when he said that in the end, it is another basketball game, and if his team can take that approach, he is confident of what they can accomplish.

Senior, Michael Weathers joined us as well and I talked to him about his big three’s, one in regulation to tie it and one in OT, and how they helped his and his team’s confidence. He gave all the credit to his teammates saying that without them he would not be able to be the leader he has been all year long for this team. He talked about how big it is to have 11 other guys on the bench with him that have his back. One thing that was certain while talking to him was the shine in his eyes. The absolute happy shock of making it to his first NCAA tournament, especially in his last year of college.

Take a look at yesterday’s presser and stay tuned for more coverage of TSU basketball and March Madness from NGSC Sports where we never stop.
