There are several great defensive prospects in this draft including Chase Young, Isaiah Simmons, Javon Kinlaw, and Derrick Brown. One prospect to pay attention to in the 2020 NFL Draft is Ohio State cornerback Jeffrey Okudah.
As a 6′ 1″ 205 pound defensive back, Okudah can bring a lot of versatility to an NFL defense. Cornerbacks entering the draft are supposed to possess outstanding coverage skills and Okudah brings that to the table. However, finding a 6′ 1″ cornerback that has speed is the cherry on top of the ice cream. He also possesses a skill that your corners don’t always possess, hit power. This skill is usually common for defensive lineman and linebackers. However, coaches and scouts have to get excited when a cornerback demonstrates that he can absolutely deliver big hits. We’re talking about a very tall cornerback that has so much balance with great coverage skills, speed, and hit power. Just the fact that Okudah is over six feet tall is a plus on its own.
Okudah needs to develop better play recognition, route recognition, and defensive discipline. If he can master those three things, Okudah can be an elite player with three seasons under his belt. If he plays at the level that Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward did in his rookie season, Okudah will get off to a fast start and might even make the pro bowl.
2020 NFL Draft Projection- Top five pick. The Detroit Lions will most likely draft Okudah with the third pick in the first round.
