The Owls faced off against the Hawks on Saturday, for what was sure to be a great matchup. The St. Joe’s fans gave Fran Dunphy a huge standing ovation for his final game against the Hawks.
Both teams got out to slow starts in the game. With around 10 minutes to play in the first half, the teams were tied at 14. The Hawks then went on a nice run in the remainder of the half. The score going into the half was 41-33, in favor of St. Joe’s.
The second half started slow but heated up quickly. The Owls snuck back into the game, and before they knew it, they were tied at 48 with just over 11 to play in the game. Then the teams traded the lead a few times as the clock neared zero. With 4:48 left, the teams were now tied at 60, but the Owls hit three straight three pointers to gain a nine-point lead. Late free throws by Temple helped them fend off the Hawks and win the game 77-70.
The Owls were led by their dynamic duo, Shizz Alston, Jr. and Quinton Rose, who both had 15 points in this one.
They now improve to 7-1 on the season and are surely making their case for the tournament this year. The Owls will have a very tough matchup this Wednesday as they travel to take on #23 Villanova.
