The Temple Owls Start Their Year 2-0

In Fran Dunphy’s final season, the Owls kicked off their year with two easy wins. With basketball season upon us, the Owls are expected to have a great year this year and they certainly started it off in the right direction.

The Owls opened up their season last week with an inner-city matchup against Lasalle. The Owls hosted the Explorers in what turned out to be a nail-biter on Tuesday, November 6. The teams were knotted at 28 as it went to the half, but forward Quinton Rose led his team to a victory over Lasalle, 75-67. Rose ended the game with 15 points. Nate Pierre-Louis also had a great performance as he ended with a double-double, with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Three days later, the Owls played hosts to Detroit who came in off of a loss to Western Michigan. The Owls were down early and struggled in the first half. When they went into the locker room at the half, the score stood at 41-37 in favor of Detroit. It was there that Fran Dunphy and his team made major adjustments that led to their second-half routing of Detroit. They outscored Detroit 46-26 in the second half and went on to win by a score of 83-67.

With that win, the Owls stayed perfect at home and on the season. Detroit’s Antoine Davis’ 30-point game was not enough to take down Temple. Temple was led by a 30-point game of their own, coming from Shizz Alston, Jr. who had a dominant night, scoring his career high.
