This week’s edition of the conference notebook will for the most part deal with where the league ranks in various polls.
In this week RPI the ACC is the top- rated conference. With six teams in the top 20 and 10 in the top 50, the league can claim top billing.
The league also boasts the most teams in this week AP top 25 ranking with six teams. This week’s Kenpom poll finds seven teams in the top 30 and 13 in the top 75. The Sagarin ratings has four teams in the top 10 and 11 in the top 50.
This week the ACC has co-players of the week in North Carolina’s Joel Berry and Notre Dame’s Steve Vasturia, while the Rookie of the Week is Georgia Tech’s Josh Okogie.
The Florida State Seminoles should take issue with the schedule makers like with Saturday’s game vs Louisville. It will end a stretch of playing six straight contest against teams ranked in the top 25 AP poll. They will join Duke who did it in 1980 and Maryland in 1993.
Virginia Head Coach Tony Bennett continues to move up the ranks of all-time victories in league play. With this past Wednesday’s beatdown of Boston College, Bennett tied Clemson coach Cliff Ellis for 19th place with 179 wins.
It’s good to be the home team when playing in this league. So far with the season almost three weeks old, home teams have a 27-12 record. So much for being road warriors.
It’s been a bit of a tough road lately for the Boston College Eagles. However, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. Sophomore Jerome Robinson, Freshman Ky Bowman and A.J. Turner are accounting for 81% of the team scoring so far this season. The question is, can they keep this up?
