LOS ANGELES — The Milwaukee Brewers took a commanding 3–0 lead in the National League Championship Series on Wednesday night, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 6–2 at Dodger Stadium. With the victory, Milwaukee moved within one win of sweeping the defending champions and securing its first World Series berth in 44 years.
How Milwaukee Got It Done: Power Responders and Shutout Pitching
Milwaukee set the tone on the very first pitch of the contest. Rookie outfielder Jackson Chourio ambushed a center-cut fastball from Dodgers starter Blake Snell, driving a lead-off home run over the wall in right-center field to give the Brewers an immediate 1–0 lead.
Brewers left-hander Robert Gasser kept Los Angeles completely off-balance through the front half of the game, delivering five scoreless innings and yielding just three hits.
The Dodgers briefly awakened in the bottom of the sixth. After walks to Teoscar Hernández, Kyle Tucker, and Shohei Ohtani loaded the bases against reliever Abner Uribe, catcher Will Smith drilled a two-run double off the left-center wall to put Los Angeles ahead 2–1.
However, Milwaukee’s offense responded immediately in the top of the seventh against Snell:
- Jake Bauers crushed a go-ahead, two-run home run to right field, scoring Christian Yelich to reclaim a 3–2 lead.
- Garrett Mitchell followed on the very next pitch with a 428-foot solo home run to make it 4–2.
- Insurance Runs: Milwaukee tacked on two additional runs in the eighth and ninth via a wild pitch and a Joey Ortiz RBI single to pull away for the 6–2 final.
Relievers DL Hall and Trevor Megill shut down the final nine outs without further damage to secure the win.
Why the Dodgers Are Collapsing
For a Los Angeles club that entered October as heavy World Series favorites, the 0–3 NLCS deficit stems from fundamental structural failures across three games:
- Top-of-the-Order Paralysis: The superstar trio of Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman has been largely erased by Milwaukee’s game planning. In Game 3, Betts and Freeman went a combined 0-for-9 at the plate, leaving key runners stranded during middle-inning threats.
- Rotation Meltdowns: After Yoshinobu Yamamoto lasted just 2.2 innings in Game 2, Blake Snell yielded four earned runs on two home runs over six innings in Game 3. The starting rotation has failed to deliver deep, clean outings.
- Lack of Situational Execution: Los Angeles managed only five total hits in Game 3 and was held to zero home runs. Outside of Will Smith’s two-run double, the Dodgers’ high-salaried lineup failed to sustain pressure.

On the Brink of History: Milwaukee’s 44-Year World Series Quest
A win in Game 4 on Thursday night at Dodger Stadium would clinch Milwaukee’s first World Series appearance since 1982—a 44-year drought.
The 1982 “Harvey’s Wallbangers” squad—led by Hall of Famers Robin Yount and Paul Molitor—represented the American League before falling to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. Milwaukee has never won a World Series title in its franchise history.
Holding a 3–0 series lead, the Brewers stand just 27 outs away from sweeping the defending champions and writing a new chapter in Wisconsin sports history. Game 4 is scheduled for Thursday evening in Los Angeles.
