LOS ANGELES — In a chaotic, high-powered Monday Night Football clash at SoFi Stadium, the Buffalo Bills outlasted the Los Angeles Rams 37–34 in overtime. Tyler Bass booted a 45-yard walk-off field goal with 1:55 left in the extra period, lifting Buffalo to 4–1 while dropping the preseason Super Bowl favorite Rams to 2–3.
The contest featured eight lead changes, 890 yards of total offense, and a wild second-half shootout in which the two teams combined for 35 fourth-quarter points.

Josh Allen’s Masterclass: Dual-Threat Heroics and a Career Milestone
Josh Allen put the Bills on his back, generating 331 total yards and two touchdowns to earn his 100th career victory—and his first-ever career win in overtime after losing his previous seven extra-session decisions.
While Allen’s passing numbers were efficient (12-of-19 for 210 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception), his impact on the ground proved completely unstoppable. Allen rushed 10 times for a team-high 121 yards (12.1 yards per carry) and a 1-yard touchdown run.
Running back James Cook III provided lethal balance, rushing for 111 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. After Cook scored his second touchdown to put Buffalo ahead 34–27 with 1:39 left in regulation, the Rams forced overtime on a 1-yard Kyren Williams touchdown run with 4 seconds remaining.
In overtime, after defensive end Greg Rousseau blocked a 48-yard go-ahead field goal attempt by Rams kicker Harrison Mevis, Allen took over. The quarterback ripped off scrambles of 19 and 13 yards to march Buffalo into field goal range, setting up Bass for the game-winner.
Rams’ Defense: High Payroll, Zero Answers on the Ground
For a Los Angeles franchise that invested heavily in its defensive front and overall roster structure to compete for a championship, Monday night was a damning performance.
The Rams surrendered a staggering 234 rushing yards to Buffalo at an average of 7.6 yards per play overall. Despite facing an opponent missing star receiver DJ Moore due to injury, Los Angeles failed to limit Buffalo’s ground game in high-leverage situations. In the fourth quarter and overtime, the Rams’ front seven consistently missed tackles and lost edge containment, allowing Allen and Cook to repeatedly extend drives on third and fourth downs.
Sitting at 2–3, Los Angeles has now dropped three of its first five games for the fourth time in five seasons. Without dramatic fixes along the defensive front, the heavy monetary investments made in this roster are failing to deliver dividends when games hang in the balance.
Bills’ Defensive Vulnerabilities: Forcing the Offense into Shootouts
While Allen’s brilliance saved the evening, Buffalo’s defense continues to display concerning cracks that force the offense to play near-flawless football just to stay ahead.
Buffalo’s secondary was shredded by Matthew Stafford, who completed 40 of 54 passes for 383 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Rams receiver Puka Nacua set a Monday Night Football record with a career-high 17 receptions on 24 targets for 138 yards and a touchdown, while Davante Adams caught two touchdown passes.
The Bills allowed 454 total yards and failed to protect a late fourth-quarter lead. During a stretch in the fourth quarter, Buffalo allowed the Rams to score touchdowns on consecutive drives of 83, 61, and 63 yards. Were it not for Rousseau’s penetration on the blocked overtime field goal, Buffalo’s defensive lapses would have handed them their second loss of the season.
