WNBA Recaps: Wings Lock In, Mystics Make History, and the Playoff Bracket is Set

Tuesday night’s WNBA action officially finalized the 2026 postseason field as Dallas punched its ticket and Washington rolled to another landmark win. Here is a look at the games last night that locked in all 8 playoff teams.

Dallas Wings 96, Portland Fire 78

Dallas (23–16) secured its first postseason berth since 2023 with a dominant victory at College Park Center, setting a franchise record for regular-season wins in the process. The loss officially eliminated the Portland Fire (15–23) from playoff contention. Paige Bueckers finished with 22 points and 11 assists, Arike Ogunbowale added 17 points, and Awak Kuier had a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.

If the season ended today, Dallas would play the top-seeded Lynx, so a few more wins and some help from other teams could push the Wings up in the standings and avoid that juggernaut, for now.

Washington Mystics 94, Phoenix Mercury 84

Washington (23–15) logged its 23rd win of the season, marking the second-most regular-season victories in franchise history behind only the 2019 championship team. Sonia Citron led the offense with 19 points and 9 assists, while Kiki Iriafen recorded her 17th double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Shakira Austin finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds. If the season ended today, the Mystics would play the 2-seed Golden State Valkyries.

Of course, the logjam between positions 4-8 still has 5 teams in play for the 4th spot that gets you home-court advantage. The Mystics have been playing such good ball this year, they still have a legit shot to host a playoff game for the first time since their title-winning season

WNBA Playoff Picture

The Lynx are a couple of wins away from clinching the top seed, and the Valkyries, Aces, and Dream are in the 2-4 spots. The many questions will now take center stage as the chase to a championship begins.

Are the Lynx finally primed to win their first title since 2017?
Can Golden State climb the mountaintop in just their second year of existence?
Are the Dream primed to finish it off and win it all?
Is the duo of Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell just too much come playoff time?
