Jon Rahm’s future with LIV Golf has become one of golf’s biggest questions. Recent developments have created fresh uncertainty around the Spanish star. Rahm joined LIV Golf in December 2023 after leaving the PGA Tour. Reports placed his contract value between $300 million and $500 million. However, Rahm has since become one of LIV’s most important players. Now, questions surround what happens after the 2026 season. LIV Golf faces major changes after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced its funding will end. The league has also attracted new investment to help secure its future.
Rahm’s Contract Makes an Exit Complicated
Rahm addressed his LIV contract situation earlier this year. He confirmed that his agreement extends beyond the 2026 season. More importantly, Rahm said he does not see many ways out. He described the contract as difficult to escape. That does not mean Rahm wants to leave LIV Golf. In fact, he has repeatedly defended his decision to join the league. Still, his comments have not stopped speculation. LIV’s uncertain future has naturally created questions about every major player. Rahm remains one of LIV’s biggest stars. He also leads Legion XIII as its captain.
Rahm Continues to Dominate LIV Golf
Despite the uncertainty, Rahm has continued producing strong results. On Aug. 9, Rahm secured his third straight LIV Golf individual championship. He clinched the 2026 season title with one regular-season event remaining. Rahm entered the LIV Golf New York event with a massive points advantage. He held more than 200 points over Bryson DeChambeau. His final performance in New York did not match his usual standard. Rahm finished tied for 41st at eight over par. However, that result did not matter for the season standings. Rahm had already built an insurmountable lead. He won events in Hong Kong and Mexico City during the 2026 season. He also recorded three runner-up finishes. That success makes his situation even more interesting. Rahm clearly remains competitive within LIV Golf. Yet, the league’s future could influence his long-term plans.
LIV Golf Faces a Major Crossroads
LIV Golf entered 2026 facing significant financial uncertainty. The Saudi PIF plans to end its funding after this season. That decision forced LIV to search for new financial backing. The league has since secured a new investor. That investment reportedly provides a path for LIV to continue beyond 2026. However, questions remain about the league’s long-term structure. Players must consider what LIV will look like under its new financial model. Rahm has acknowledged those uncertainties. He also remained confident that LIV’s leadership could find a solution. Earlier this summer, Rahm even refused to rule out helping financially. He discussed the possibility of players contributing money toward LIV’s future.
Rahm Has Kept His 2027 Plans Private
Rahm has become increasingly careful when discussing his future. In July, he refused to confirm whether he would remain with LIV Golf in 2027. Rahm said he knew a lot about the situation but could not discuss it publicly. That comment immediately fueled more speculation. Still, Rahm has not announced plans to leave LIV Golf. Any suggestion of an imminent departure remains speculation. Recent reports have suggested LIV officials worry about losing Rahm. Some sources reportedly believe his departure could become possible. However, those reports conflict with Rahm’s own comments about his contract.
A PGA Tour Return Would Not Be Simple
A return to the PGA Tour would also create complications. Rahm left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in 2023. Since then, golf’s major tours have continued working through their broader divide. The PGA Tour has also announced plans for a new Championship Series beginning in 2028. That could create another potential option for LIV players. Yet Rahm could not simply walk away and immediately resume his previous PGA Tour status. His contract remains a major obstacle. His relationship with the DP World Tour has also required attention. In May, Rahm reached an agreement with the DP World Tour over outstanding fines. That agreement restored him to good standing. The arrangement also provided conditional releases for LIV events during 2026. It helped preserve his eligibility for future DP World Tour events and the Ryder Cup.
What Happens Next for Jon Rahm?
For now, Rahm remains a LIV Golf player. He has also just secured another individual championship. Therefore, there is little reason to believe his competitive focus has changed. The bigger issue involves LIV’s future structure. If the league continues with strong financial backing, Rahm could remain comfortable. If major changes arrive, however, his options could become more complicated. Rahm’s comments also suggest that he understands the uncertainty. He has not ruled out possibilities, but he has not announced an exit. That distinction matters.
Right now, the possibility of Rahm leaving LIV Golf remains exactly that: a possibility. His contract runs beyond 2026. Rahm has said he sees few ways out. He also continues to support LIV’s efforts to survive. Still, golf’s landscape could change dramatically over the next several months. For now, Rahm remains one of LIV Golf’s biggest stars. His future could become one of the sport’s biggest stories once the 2026 season ends.
