The intensity of the Stanley Cup Playoffs shifted gears on Monday as three series moved into Game 2 and the Edmonton Oilers finally kicked off their postseason run. From double-overtime daggers to massive goaltending performances, Monday was a masterclass in playoff grit.

Carolina Hurricanes 3, Ottawa Senators 2 (2OT)

Series: CAR leads 2–0

In a marathon at the Lenovo Center, the Carolina Hurricanes pushed the Senators to the brink with a thrilling double-overtime victory.

The Hero: Jordan Martinook played the hero, burying the game-winner at 13:53 of the second overtime. Martinook’s goal made him only the third player in franchise history to score a winning goal in a multi-OT playoff game. The goal came after he had missed a penalty shot in the first OT
The Action: The Canes built an early 2–0 lead behind goals from Logan Stankoven and Sebastian Aho. However, Ottawa refused to quit, clawing back to force extra time. Carolina’s steady forecheck eventually wore down Ottawa, giving the Hurricanes their sixth straight 2–0 series start.

Dallas Stars 4, Minnesota Wild 2

Series: Tied 1–1

The Dallas Stars delivered a necessary response at home, physical and clinical, to even their series with the Wild.

Rising Star: Wyatt Johnston was the catalyst, scoring twice—including a critical empty-netter to seal the result. Matt Duchene added a tiebreaking power-play goal and an assist to provide the veteran spark Dallas lacked in Game 1.
Goalie Battle: Jake Oettinger stood tall with 28 saves, frustrating Minnesota’s star Kirill Kaprizov all night. For the Wild, young defenseman Brock Faber provided the silver lining, scoring his first two career playoff goals in a losing effort.

Philadelphia Flyers 3, Pittsburgh Penguins 0

Series: PHI leads 2–0

The “Battle of Pennsylvania” is trending heavily toward the Orange and Black. The Philadelphia Flyers walked into PPG Paints Arena and silenced the Pittsburgh crowd with a defensive masterclass.

The Shutout: Philadelphia’s goaltending was impenetrable, frustrating Sidney Crosby and the Penguins’ power play.
The Damage: By taking both games on the road, the Flyers head back to Philadelphia with a stranglehold on the series, leaving Pittsburgh searching for answers before Game 3.
The Teenager: 19-year-old rookie, Porter Martone, is the sixth player in NHL history to score in each of his first two playoff games.

Edmonton Oilers 4, Anaheim Ducks 3

Series: EDM leads 1–0

In the final game of the night, the Edmonton Oilers survived a late-game scare from the Ducks to secure their first win of the postseason.

Offensive Depth: With the spotlight on the return of Leon Draisaitl, it was the depth scoring that carried the day. Both Jason Dickinson and Kasperi Kapanen netted two goals each to power the Oilers’ attack.
The Rally: Anaheim kept it close until the final whistle, but Edmonton’s transition game proved too fast for the young Ducks to contain.
