Western Pennsylvania is home to some of the best high school football in the United States. The WPIAL is well known for producing many of the greatest players in the history of football, including George Blanda, Mike Ditka, Aaron Donald, Tony Dorsett, Bill Fralic, Ty Law, Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Joe Namath, and Darrell Revis among the most legendary.

Aliquippa Quips Report

WPIAL Championships (20) | PIAA Championships (5)
Week Three: #3 Aliquippa Quips (1-1) at #2 Mars Planets (3-0), 7:00 PM
Aliquippa (1-1) is coming off an absolutely humbling evening against Avonworth, who defeated the Quips 23-7 last Friday night at The Pit at Heinz Field.
The Antelopes, by the way, are that good, and I’m pretty sure they are going to bury every team they play from here on in, and that includes Thomas Jefferson this week, to the WPIAL Championship, and anyone that the eastern side of the state will send when they make the State Finals.
This Friday evening, Aliquippa will travel to face undefeated Mars (3-0), whom I’ve elevated to the #2 Team in 4A for the week.
It will be a test for both teams… for the Quips, a chance to bounce back, and prove last week’s loss was just against an elite team, and for Mars, proof that they are indeed for real, and expect to challenge for the 4A Title this season.
Quip quarterback Marques Council has thrown for 421 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions, while rushing for 120 yards and another score. Josh Lay is the leading receiver with seven receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown. Joseph Work and Cameron Cannon continue to share time at running back for Aliquippa.
Mars is lead by quarterback Colin Yurisinec, who has thrown for 327 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception. Gabe Hein is the Planets top receiver with 14 catches for 235 yards and five touchdowns. Ayden Yocum has rushed for 392 yards.
