Week 8 arrives with the Pinellas County high school football season entering a critical stretch. District races now carry extra importance across the county. Several teams can strengthen playoff positions with victories Friday night. Clearwater remains one of the county’s biggest stories. Meanwhile, Largo, Countryside, and Clearwater Central Catholic face important tests. Pinellas Park also enters Week 8 with momentum after dominating Seminole last week. Most games kick off Friday, October 9. Here is a look at the county’s Week 8 schedule.
Pinellas Park at Clearwater
Pinellas Park travels to Clearwater for a major district matchup at 7:30 p.m. The Patriots improved to 3-3 after crushing Seminole 36-0 last week. Pinellas Park rushed for 243 yards in that victory. Running back Jhai Hitchcock Jr. continues driving the Patriots’ offense. He has rushed for 843 yards this season. However, Clearwater presents a massive challenge. The Tornadoes enter the matchup at 6-0. They have become one of Pinellas County’s strongest teams this season. Clearwater already defeated St. Petersburg 38-3. The Tornadoes also shut out Northeast 41-0. Pinellas Park must control possession and avoid falling behind early.
East Lake at Largo
East Lake visits Largo for a 7 p.m. district matchup. The Packers enter at 4-3, while East Lake comes in at 3-4. East Lake has already shown plenty of offensive firepower. The Eagles defeated Pinellas Park 49-12 and Osceola 55-7 earlier this season. However, Mitchell defeated East Lake 50-21. Largo has another opportunity to strengthen its district position. This matchup should feature plenty of physical football. Both programs know each other well from years of county competition. Largo hosts the game before traveling to Mitchell next week.
Seminole at Dunedin
Seminole travels to Dunedin for a 7:30 p.m. conference matchup. Both teams desperately need a victory. Seminole enters at 3-3 after suffering a 36-0 loss against Pinellas Park. Dunedin enters the matchup at 2-4. The Falcons have struggled to generate consistent victories this season. However, playing at home gives Dunedin an opportunity to change its momentum. Seminole must quickly forget last week’s loss. Another defeat would make the season’s final stretch much more difficult.
Countryside at Tarpon Springs
Countryside visits Tarpon Springs at 7:30 p.m. Both teams enter with 4-2 records. That makes this one of Pinellas County’s best Week 8 matchups. Countryside enters after dominating Anclote 49-0. Meanwhile, Tarpon Springs already owns an impressive 24-10 victory over Gibbs. Both teams still have postseason goals. Therefore, expect urgency from the opening kickoff.
Palm Harbor University at Steinbrenner
Palm Harbor University travels outside Pinellas County to face Steinbrenner. Kickoff comes at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Palm Harbor enters at 2-4. Steinbrenner brings a 6-1 record into the matchup. The Hurricanes face a difficult challenge against one of Hillsborough County’s stronger teams. Palm Harbor must avoid turnovers and create manageable third downs. The Hurricanes return to county competition next week against East Lake.
Gibbs at Anclote
Gibbs travels north to face Anclote at 7:30 p.m. Both teams enter Friday with 2-4 records. The Gladiators have shown offensive potential during the season. Gibbs produced 288 passing yards during its September loss against Tarpon Springs. However, consistency remains important. Anclote recently suffered a 49-0 loss against Countryside. Gibbs will look to attack early and establish momentum.
Boca Ciega at Tampa Catholic
Boca Ciega travels across the bay to face Tampa Catholic at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates enter at 3-3, while Tampa Catholic stands at 4-2. Boca Ciega has already played several difficult county opponents. The Pirates lost 20-6 against Lakewood. They later suffered a narrow 23-21 loss against Calvary Christian. Those games showed Boca Ciega can compete in close contests. However, the Pirates must finish drives against Tampa Catholic.
Lakewood at Calvary Christian
Lakewood visits Calvary Christian in Clearwater at 7:30 p.m. Calvary will also celebrate Senior Night at The Rock. Lakewood enters at 3-3, while Calvary carries a 5-1 record. The Spartans enter with plenty of confidence. Lakewood crushed St. Petersburg 43-0 last week. The Spartans previously defeated Northeast 34-8 and Boca Ciega 20-6. Calvary presents another difficult challenge. The Warriors already own a 23-21 victory against Boca Ciega. This matchup could become one of Friday’s most competitive games.
Hollins at St. Petersburg
Hollins visits St. Petersburg for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. St. Petersburg enters at 3-3. Hollins comes into the game at 1-6. The Green Devils need a response after last week’s 43-0 loss against Lakewood. Before that defeat, St. Petersburg defeated Pinellas Park 24-13. The Green Devils also edged Gibbs 20-19. Hollins recently defeated IMG Academy State 18-14. Therefore, St. Petersburg cannot overlook the Royals.
Osceola at Northeast
Osceola travels to Northeast for a 7:30 p.m. matchup. The Warriors enters at 1-5, while Northeast stands at 2-4. Both programs need something positive during the season’s final stretch. Northeast has struggled since defeating Hollins 40-8. Lakewood beat the Vikings 34-8. Clearwater then shut them out 41-0. Osceola owns a 24-21 victory against Hollins. This matchup offers both teams a chance to reset their seasons.
Berkeley Prep at Clearwater Central Catholic
Clearwater Central Catholic hosts Berkeley Prep at 7:30 p.m. for Homecoming. The matchup also carries district importance. CCC enters after losing 47-35 against Cardinal Mooney last week. Before that loss, the Marauders defeated Tampa Catholic 14-10. They also beat St. Petersburg Catholic 35-11. Berkeley Prep remains another dangerous Tampa Bay opponent. The Buccaneers bring physicality and familiarity into this rivalry. CCC will need a complete performance to protect its home field.
Northside Christian at St. Petersburg Catholic
Northside Christian visits St. Petersburg Catholic at 7 p.m. The Barons will celebrate Homecoming during the district matchup. Northside enters at 1-5, while St. Petersburg Catholic stands at 2-3. However, the Barons enter with momentum. St. Petersburg Catholic defeated Zephyrhills Christian Academy 41-36 last week. Northside needs a strong defensive effort to slow that momentum.
Sarasota Christian at Indian Rocks Christian
Indian Rocks Christian hosts Sarasota Christian at 7 p.m. in Largo. This game represents a non-conference matchup. Sarasota Christian has already shown offensive ability this season. The Blazers defeated Cambridge Christian 35-26 in September. Indian Rocks Christian gets the benefit of playing at home. The Eagles also face Northside Christian next week.
Week 8 Could Shape the Stretch Run
Week 8 brings important games throughout Pinellas County. Clearwater can remain unbeaten against Pinellas Park. Largo and East Lake meet with district implications. Meanwhile, Countryside and Tarpon Springs bring matching 4-2 records into their showdown. Lakewood also gets another opportunity to prove its recent surge means something. For struggling teams, Friday provides another chance to change direction. October football leaves little room for mistakes. District standings matter more now. Playoff positioning also becomes increasingly important with every result. That should create another entertaining Friday night across Pinellas County.
This is going to be an exciting week for Pinellas County football.
