The NHL has no shortage of iconic jerseys. Some designs feel tied to hockey history. Others still look fresh decades after their debut. Then, some simply need a major refresh. The 2026-27 season brings another interesting twist to the league’s uniform landscape. All 32 teams will introduce Hometown Remix jerseys during the season. However, those sweaters will serve as special-edition alternates. The standard home jerseys remain the focus here. With that in mind, here is my ranking of every NHL home jersey entering the 2026-27 season.
- Washington Capitals
The Capitals’ red home jersey has plenty of history behind it. However, the current design feels stuck in another era. The large wordmark creates a busy appearance across the chest. The striping also lacks the simplicity of Washington’s best looks. The Capitals have plenty of room for a future redesign.
- Florida Panthers
Florida has a strong color combination with red, navy and gold. Still, the current jersey does not maximize those elements. The shoulder details and number treatment create a somewhat football-inspired appearance. The Panthers’ recent alternate designs have shown more personality.
- Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks have one of hockey’s most recognizable modern color combinations. Unfortunately, the current home jersey feels slightly underwhelming. The orange base provides energy, but the overall design lacks some visual balance. Anaheim could create something special with a cleaner approach.
- Los Angeles Kings
The Kings have an excellent hockey identity. Their black and silver combination remains instantly recognizable. Yet the current home jersey does not quite capture the franchise’s strongest eras. Los Angeles has plenty of historical inspiration available for future designs.
- San Jose Sharks
The Sharks still have one of the NHL’s best color palettes. Teal immediately separates them from most teams. The current jersey, however, does not feel as distinctive as earlier Sharks designs. A little more striping could make this look even stronger.
- New Jersey Devils
The Devils benefit from one of the simplest identities in professional sports. Their red, black and white combination works almost anywhere. The current jersey remains sharp because it avoids unnecessary details. It simply lacks some of the visual punch found higher on this list.
- Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus has a solid color combination and a strong logo. The cannon-inspired identity also gives the franchise personality. However, the home jersey feels slightly predictable. The design works without becoming particularly memorable.
- Nashville Predators
Nashville’s gold immediately grabs attention. That alone gives the Predators an advantage. The navy accents provide useful contrast as well. Still, the current home jersey can feel a little busy compared with Nashville’s cleaner alternate looks.
- Dallas Stars
The Stars have one of the strongest color identities in hockey. Their green and black combination looks fantastic on the ice. The current jersey just lacks some of the magic from Dallas’ older designs. A stronger throwback influence could elevate the look.
- Minnesota Wild
Minnesota has an outstanding logo and an excellent color palette. Forest green, red and cream create a unique hockey identity. The home sweater looks good without trying too hard. Still, the design could use slightly stronger striping to reach the top tier.
- Seattle Kraken
Seattle has only been around since 2021. Yet the Kraken already have a recognizable visual identity. The deep navy base creates a premium appearance. The lighter blue and red accents add contrast. The design could still use more traditional hockey striping.
- Utah Mammoth
Utah entered the NHL with a fresh identity and a clean color palette. The burgundy and blue combination looks different from most NHL teams. The home jersey has a modern appearance. It should become even more recognizable as the franchise builds its history.
- Vancouver Canucks
Vancouver has one of hockey’s most complicated uniform histories. The current blue home jersey brings some needed simplicity. The orca logo remains recognizable worldwide. However, the Canucks have worn stronger home designs throughout franchise history.
- Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins have a legendary identity. Black and gold immediately connect the jersey to Pittsburgh sports. The current home design remains effective because it stays relatively clean. It does not quite match the best Penguins sweaters from previous generations.
- Detroit Red Wings
Detroit’s red home jersey is one of hockey’s ultimate classics. The winged-wheel logo needs almost no introduction. The simplicity works because the franchise has decades of history behind it. It ranks here because several teams offer stronger visual details.
- Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto’s blue jersey represents one of hockey’s most recognizable brands. The crest remains powerful and instantly identifiable. The striping provides enough structure without overwhelming the design. The Leafs rank highly because this sweater simply feels like hockey.
- Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights’ home jersey features a sleek black base with metallic gold, steel gray, and red accents. The bold crest and sharp striping give it a modern, aggressive look that fits Las Vegas perfectly.
- Colorado Avalanche
Colorado’s burgundy home jersey has aged extremely well. The mountain-inspired logo fits the team’s identity perfectly. The blue and white accents also create strong separation. It feels modern while still looking like a traditional hockey sweater.
- St. Louis Blues
The Blues have always benefited from excellent colors. Royal blue and yellow create an immediate visual impact. The musical note logo also fits the city perfectly. The current home jersey keeps those elements together in a clean package.
- Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers have one of the NHL’s strongest identities. Orange, black and white create a bold combination. The winged-P logo remains distinctive after decades. Philadelphia’s home jersey does not need much decoration to stand out.
- Boston Bruins
The Bruins have an unmistakable black and gold identity. Their bear logo and classic striping create a timeless appearance. The jersey also connects several generations of Boston hockey. Few NHL sweaters look wrong when worn on the ice.
- Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago owns one of hockey’s most recognizable traditional jerseys. The red base creates a strong canvas for the crest. The striping also provides a classic appearance. Its place outside the top 10 reflects the strength of the competition.
- Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa Bay’s blue and white jersey looks extremely clean. The lightning-bolt logo works perfectly against the blue background. The simple striping also keeps the sweater from becoming too busy. It has become one of the league’s recognizable modern designs.
- Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes have developed a unique identity around their warning-flag imagery. Their red home jersey embraces that personality. The striping also gives the design plenty of energy. Carolina’s sweater feels modern without losing its hockey roots.
- New York Rangers
The Rangers’ blue jersey remains one of the league’s most iconic designs. The diagonal wordmark immediately identifies the team. The red and white accents provide excellent contrast. This is another example of a simple design becoming timeless.
- Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo’s royal blue and gold combination looks fantastic together. The charging buffalo logo also carries plenty of franchise history. The current home jersey successfully blends traditional elements with a cleaner modern approach. It remains one of the league’s strongest designs.
- Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton’s blue and orange combination screams hockey. The shoulder yokes and sleeve striping create an excellent silhouette. The Oilers also benefit from decades of championship history. Seeing Connor McDavid wear this look adds another modern chapter to its story.
- Winnipeg Jets
Winnipeg’s current home jersey does an excellent job balancing history and modern design. The navy base looks sharp with the team’s light blue accents. The crest also carries a strong connection to the franchise’s identity. It is difficult to find much wrong with this sweater.
- Ottawa Senators
Ottawa’s current red home jersey brings back the classic Roman-inspired identity. The black and gold details provide excellent contrast. Most importantly, the design feels unmistakably like the Senators. It also gives the franchise a stronger connection to its earlier uniform history.
- New York Islanders
The Islanders have one of hockey’s most recognizable color combinations. Royal blue, orange and white work perfectly together. The classic crest also remains one of the sport’s strongest logos. This jersey feels like an essential part of the NHL’s visual history.
- Calgary Flames
The Flames deserve another mention among the league’s elite designs. Their red sweater captures the team’s name better than almost any uniform. The yellow and white striping creates tremendous contrast. The flaming C completes a look that feels instantly recognizable.
- Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens’ red home jersey remains the standard for NHL tradition. The design has changed remarkably little across generations. The blue and white striping gives the sweater its unmistakable identity. The iconic CH crest completes the package. Montreal’s jersey does not need trends to remain relevant. It does not need excessive graphics or complicated striping. Instead, it relies on history, consistency and simplicity. Few sports uniforms anywhere carry that kind of visual identity. That makes the Canadiens my No. 1 home jersey entering the 2026-27 season.

The NHL’s uniform landscape should get even more interesting this season. Every team will introduce a Hometown Remix uniform celebrating its fans, city and local culture. Those jerseys could eventually create another ranking. For now, though, the traditional home sweaters still define each team’s primary visual identity.
