Texas Outlasts No. 1 Ohio State: The Arch Manning Era Arrives
In front of a record-setting crowd in Austin, No. 4 Texas delivered the statement of the 2026 season by edging top-ranked Ohio State 24–23. Trailing by 20 points in the fourth quarter, Arch Manning answered his career’s biggest test, guiding the Longhorns to the largest fourth-quarter rally against an AP #1 team.
The victory reasserts Texas as one of the nation’s premier teams, while providing Manning with the signature performance needed to lock down early Heisman favoritism. Ohio State fell short, handing the Buckeyes their first regular-season loss since 2024.
Stillwater Shockwave: Oklahoma State Upends Oregon
In the day’s biggest stunner, Oklahoma State upset heavily favored Oregon 39–31 at Boone Pickens Stadium. Drew Mestemaker threw for two touchdowns while the Cowboys’ defense repeatedly flustered Oregon quarterback Dante Moore into a subpar 14-29 passing. The loss delivers an early blow to the Big Ten’s national title aspirations and establishes Oklahoma State as a serious contender in the Big 12.
Michigan Right the Ship, Washington and Iowa Survive Squeakers
- Michigan 17, No. 11 Oklahoma 10: After dropping out of the Top 25 following an ugly opener, Michigan reclaimed its identity in Ann Arbor. Tied 10–10 midway through the fourth quarter, the Wolverines intercepted Sooners quarterback John Mateer, setting up Jordan Marshall’s game-winning 1-yard touchdown run. Freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood added a 38-yard rushing touchdown to spark the offense.
- Washington 16, Utah State 14: The Huskies narrowly avoided catastrophe at home. Washington struggled to finish drives against a stubborn Aggies defense, needing a fourth-quarter interception by Utah State as time expired to preserve the win.
- No. 21 Iowa 16, Iowa State 13: The Cy-Hawk Trophy remains in Iowa City after Hawkeyes kicker Caden Buhr drilled a 42-yard field goal with 15 seconds remaining. Iowa erased a 10–0 early deficit, relying on Hank Brown’s efficient second-half management, and was able to hold off the Cyclones.
