Brock Lesnar officially closed one of the greatest careers in WWE history on Tuesday. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Lesnar announced his retirement just days after his emotional loss to Oba Femi in the main event of SummerSlam 2026 Night One. The match took place in Lesnar’s home state of Minnesota, making the moment even more meaningful. Lesnar reflected on the night with visible emotion. He thanked WWE fans for supporting him throughout his remarkable career. He then confirmed what many fans already suspected after SummerSlam. “I’m here today to do this interview to let the world and everybody know that I am retired,” Lesnar said. “Saturday was a very emotional day for me. Saturday for Brock Lesnar, that’s it. That’s it for me in the squared circle.”
The announcement brought an end to a career that transformed professional wrestling for more than two decades. Lesnar signed with WWE in 2000 after an outstanding amateur wrestling career. He quickly became one of the company’s fastest-rising stars. His combination of size, speed, and athletic ability separated him from nearly everyone on the roster. His official main roster debut came in March 2002. From the beginning, WWE presented him as an unstoppable force. That same year, Lesnar captured the King of the Ring tournament, proving he belonged among the company’s elite performers.
Only months later, he reached another historic milestone. At SummerSlam 2002, Lesnar defeated The Rock to win the WWE Championship. At just 25 years old, he became the youngest WWE Champion in company history at that time. His momentum continued into 2003. Lesnar won the Royal Rumble match and earned the right to headline WrestleMania XIX. He defeated Kurt Angle in the main event to retain the WWE Championship after one of the most memorable matches of that era. However, Lesnar shocked the wrestling world in March 2004. He walked away from WWE to pursue a professional football career. Although the NFL dream never materialized, he found tremendous success in mixed martial arts. Eventually, Lesnar captured the UFC Heavyweight Championship and became one of combat sports’ biggest attractions.
After several years away, Lesnar returned to WWE in April 2012. His surprise comeback immediately created headlines when he attacked John Cena. The return launched the next chapter of his legendary career and introduced fans to an even more dominant version of “The Beast Incarnate.” Over the following years, Lesnar delivered some of WWE’s biggest moments. His most famous victory came at WrestleMania 30 in 2014. On that night, he defeated The Undertaker and ended the legendary undefeated WrestleMania streak. Many fans still consider that victory one of the most shocking moments in wrestling history. Later that year, Lesnar overwhelmed John Cena at SummerSlam to reclaim the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The dominant performance reinforced his reputation as WWE’s most dangerous competitor.
Lesnar continued collecting victories against many of wrestling’s biggest names. He defeated stars including Randy Orton, Goldberg, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins during several memorable rivalries. Every appearance felt like a major event because Lesnar competed on a limited schedule while maintaining championship-level dominance. Throughout his WWE career, Lesnar accumulated an impressive list of accomplishments. He won 10 WWE or World Championships, two Royal Rumble matches, the King of the Ring tournament, and the Money in the Bank contract. Few superstars matched his championship success or his ability to attract mainstream attention. Eventually, a new challenge emerged in the form of Oba Femi. The powerful rising star battled Lesnar three times, creating one of WWE’s newest marquee rivalries. Their third meeting came in the main event of SummerSlam 2026 Night One.
Femi defeated Lesnar in front of a passionate Minnesota crowd. Yet the result became only part of the story. After the match, Lesnar embraced Femi in a powerful show of respect. He then grabbed a microphone and addressed the audience. Instead of focusing on his own legacy, Lesnar praised his opponent and declared that Oba Femi represented the future of WWE.
