On Monday morning, the NFL and the world lost legendary Miami Dolphins head coach, Don Shula. When thinking of Shula, many think about the perfect season. It was 1972 and the Dolphins would go a perfect 17-0 after winning Super Bowl VII. It was the culmination of hard word that was sometimes criticized by his players. In 26 seasons as the coach of the Dolphins, Shula was 257-133. Overall, he was 328-156 with a .677 winning percentage and in his 33 years of coaching, he had only two losing seasons. He is still the winningest coach in NFL history with 347 wins. To put what Shula accomplished in perspective, the Dolphins have had 12 head coaches and won less than 50% of their games since his departure.

Shula did it his way as he demanded maximum effort, drive, and sacrifice to the game from his players. But one of his biggest regrets was not being able to win a Super Bowl with Dan Marino. They were together for 13 seasons and when Marino was drafted, it looked like the Dolphins could win a few more NFL titles. But they were only able to get as far as the AFC championship in Marino’s second year. Whenever there is a team flirting with perfection in any given season, we think of Shula and his gang toasting once that team loses the chance. When you think of NFL greatness, be sure to put Don Shula up there with the best of them.

Around the NFL, moves are still going on and there are players still waiting to see where they may land. In Tennessee, CB, Logan Ryan has announced he will not be returning to the Titans. He said he is looking forward to finding a new team.
