Boston College fell to UNC<\/a> in its first ACC semifinal appearance<\/h2>\n

DURHAM, N.C.<\/strong> \u2013 The Boston College baseball team was eliminated from the ACC Championship with a 13-5 decision to No. 17 North Carolina in the program’s first trip to the semifinals at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Saturday. The Eagles fell to 31-27 on the season, while the Tar Heels improved to 41-17 and move on to Sunday’s championship game.<\/p>\n

The first two Carolina batters of the game walked and scored in the bottom of the first and the Tar Heels went on to lead the whole way. UNC built a 7-1 lead after the fifth and thwarted a BC comeback by answering the Eagles’ four-run top of the sixth with three in the home half.<\/p>\n

Junior right fielder\u00a0Joe Suozzi<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0(Glen Cove, N.Y.)<\/strong>\u00a0led Boston College with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Junior first baseman\u00a0Jack Cunningham<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0(South Riding, Va.)<\/strong>reached base three times, including a solo home run. Senior catcher\u00a0Gian Martellini<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0(Johnston, R.I.)<\/strong>\u00a0added a 2-for-4 game.<\/p>\n

Senior right-hander\u00a0John Witkowski<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0(Melrose, Mass.)<\/strong> made his third start of the season. Witkowski (1-1) allowed four runs in two-plus innings; leaving the game with two on and nobody out in the third.<\/p>\n
