Phillies pitcher Ranger Suarez, candidate to be fantasy championship winner

Fantasy Radar #16: Fantasy Championship

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 17 Second

The fantasy championship is nearly coming to a close for fantasy baseball players. For the vast majority of fantasy players, a fantasy championship is well out of reach, but if you’re reading this it’s likely you’ve made it. Congratulations, but you can’t come this close and lose. Pick up these players, and your chance of winning a fantasy championship grows tenfold

Vinnie Pasquantino (16-32% rostered)

Yes, Vinnie Pasquantino is a real baseball player and not a minor character from the 4th season of The Sopranos. The Royals rookie slugger is actually playing quite well, slashing .278/.369/.441 with an OPS+ of 128 on the season. Those numbers are thrown off by a subpar July that saw him hitting with an OPS nearly 300 points lower than his August and September. With little name recognition on a toiling Royals team, Pasquantino is a sneaky pick to create enough production to win you a fantasy championship.

Oscar Gonzalez (30-45% rostered)

Last week, I said that Oscar Gonzalez should win fantasy leagues… as long as the magic keeps going. Well, guess what? The magic is still alive and Gonzalez is likely to produce at this unsustainable level until the end of the regular season. Gonzalez is one of the more obvious picks for a fantasy championship winner.

Livan Soto (0% rostered)

Livan Soto has been one of the best September call-ups in the entire league. It’s only been ten games, but Soto is batting .379 with an OPS+ of 187. It’s worth noting that this is on an absurd .500 BABIP, but it’s a small sample size that’s going to stay small. Livan Soto isn’t going to slow down, especially with the Angels’ weak remaining schedule (Texas and Oakland). With absolutely zero eyes on the Angels at this point, Soto is another sneaky good fantasy championship winner.

Oswaldo Cabrera (18-32% rostered)

The New York Yankees have finally been able to clinch the AL East (In Vlad Jr’s house no less). With that clinch, it’s going to be a let-the-kids-play situation. With Anthony Rizzo as manager, Cabrera is going to be pushed to the front-end of the lineup. Even with several starters resting, the Yankees should still be good on offense. Cabrera is a good last-minute plug for production at any of the infield spots.

Ranger Suarez (61-71% rostered)

It seems that there has been little talk of Ranger Suarez. After a breakout 2021 season (ERA+ of 308!), Suarez has become a part of the Phillies’ 3-headed pitching monster. There has been serious (and expected) regression, but Suarez is still an above-average pitcher. Suarez will be on his A-game over this next week as the Phillies fight to stay in the last wild card spot.  Suarez is set to start on the last day of the season, but don’t wait so long if Suarez is still available.

Hunter Greene (41-53% rostered)

In a season doomed from the start, it’s no surprise that Hunter Greene’s numbers look mediocre. Surprisingly, Greene has been making a run over these past two months. In 4 starts, Greene has allowed only 3 runs with 37 Ks. Greene has another meaningless start against the Cubs coming up but he’ll still end the season on a high note.

Drey Jameson (15-35% rostered)

The Diamondbacks’ 6th ranked prospect has had quite the debut. In 3 games, Jameson has an ERA of 0.98 with 2 wins. Jameson faces the SF Giants in a second-straight start and will look to shut them out again. Plug Jameson in if you’re on track to finish under the starter limit.
