HBU Huskies Baseball: UIW Rallies Past HBU, 5-4

SAN ANTONIO – UIW rallied from a four-run deficit to clinch the Southland Conference series victory with a 5-4 win over HBU Saturday night at Daniel Sullivan Field.

Sophomore first baseman Brennen Bales went 1-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs for the Huskies. Senior right fielder Brandon Bena was 1-for-2 with a double and scored a run, while freshman shortstop Sebastian Trinidad went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Sophomore catcher Dawson Woods also drove in a run.

Junior righthander Andrew Reitmeyer took the loss, allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts in three innings. Sophomore starter Daxton Tinker gave up four runs, two earned, on six hits with six strikeouts in five innings.

Wilson Ehrhardt went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs, and a run, while Jordan McFarland went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Lee Thomas tripled and scored a run for the Cardinals.

Michael McElmeel earned the win, shutting HBU out on two hits and struck out four in 4.2 innings of relief and Johnny Foral notched the save, allowing no runs and no hits with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Starter Jaren Warwick allowed four runs, one earned, on three hits with two strikeouts in 2.2 innings.

HBU led 4-0 after a three-run third, but UIW scored one in the fifth and three of its own in the sixth to tie it up. Thomas led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and Ryan Flores followed with a single to give the Cardinals the lead.

The series concludes with a 1 p.m. first pitch Sunday.
