The Atlanta Braves were one of the best teams in baseball throughout the 1990s and their foundation was built on young talent. Their pitching staff was quite possibly one of the most talented in the history of the game. They groomed Chipper and Andruw Jones from their talented minor league teams, so why not use that same formula?

Second-year outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. has the potential to become one of the elite players in all of baseball. Acuna set ofF his rookie campaign with 26 home runs and drove in 64 runs, while only playing in 111 games. He came close to being considered for MVP because of his impact on a young Braves squad.

Acuna is now batting leadoff in the Braves lineup and picking up right where he left off in 2018. He is a triple threat of hitting, fielding and stealing bases, which are traits that make up a superstar in major league baseball. If that sounds familiar, it’s because players like Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Bonds, and other superstar players had those same talents.

The Atlanta Braves signed the 20-year old to an 8 year/$100 million dollar extension which will keep him with the team until he’s in his late twenties. It was a steal considering Bryce Harper and Manny Machado both signed new deals worth $300 million or better. Which is why this may be the smartest signing in Braves franchise history.

He has started 2019 off with a bang hitting .291 with 11 home runs and driving in 31 runs through his first 47 games. If Acuna keeps the averages rising, the Braves could have a future MVP in their dugout.
